Position Overview:

The BHS Customer Service Representative provides key customer service to members of multiple BHS services by analyzing the caller’s needs and by providing timely and accurate responses. Answers calls from members, potential members, agencies, state offices, agents/brokers, and employer staff on health insurance options at time of benefit onset date, retirement, termination, or receiving coverage.

Primary Functions:

  • High school education or equivalent experience.
  • 1 - 2 years in a fast-paced customer service environment
  • Type a minimum of 25-wpm and 10-key proficiency of 105 spm on a computer numeric keyboard.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to interact professionally, patiently, and courteously with customers over the phone and in person.
  • Proficiency in working with a diverse age population.
  • Ability to work well under pressure; work with frequent interruptions and shifting priorities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to anticipate, meet and/or exceed customer needs and expectations in a professional manner.
  • Ability to come to work on time and on daily basis.
  • Ability to adapt to change.
  • Maintain confidentiality and project a professional business image.
  • Ability to meet or exceed department standards and deadlines.

Requirements:

  • Responds to questions and counsel customers via telephone or in person regarding FSA, COBRA and Medicare regulations, eligibility, billing/payment status and claims status for all BHS products.
  • Repeatedly analyzes situations, communicates effectively, and provides accurate information in a fast-paced environment that includes dealing with angry people.
  • Reviews, updates, and becomes familiar with new and revised benefit information, regulations, or procedures.
  • Updates information as designated and cooperates with Billing and Eligibility Specialist or Group Specialist on the transfer of information.
  • Resolves and records complaints, appeals and inquiries.
  • Contacts carriers, providers, or internal staff when necessary to answer questions and obtain or provide information.
  • Provides timely follow up and return calls when required.
  • Maintains departmental service standards related to phone calls.
  • Continues education and training through on-the-job communication with Supervisors and/or Compliance Specialist and by attending training seminars.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
