The Bilingual Transportation Specialist is responsible for driving and transporting youth, following transportation schedules, and completing assignments, paperwork and/or reporting as required.
Goal of our Sheltered Hearts Program
Our goal is to provide safe and timely reunification for a child and their family or suitable sponsor.
In partnership with the Department of Health and Human Services, the Sheltered Hearts Program provides family reunification and short-term shelter for children who have entered the United States without a guardian. Children reside in our family-style cottage located on our 2,000-acre campus while our bilingual staff provide a safe and nurturing environment for children.
Job Responsibilities
- Responsible for driving and transporting youth to and from appointments and other youth related services.
- Maps out routes, itineraries, and destinations. Completes necessary paperwork and reports according to Agency policy and protocol.
- Moves or carries cargo onto, into, off of, or out of the vehicle(s) being operated and moves or carries cargo from the vehicle to the delivery or storage point.
- Starts, stops, steers and controls vehicles both on the grounds and over the road.
- Conducts safety inspection on vehicles prior to operation, including but not limited to checking gauges, fluid levels and tire pressures.
- Tends to routine maintenance of vehicles operated including detailing exterior and interior of vehicle
- Pumps gas and potentially air to tires if needed while traveling. Ensures any vehicle damage, maintenance, accidents, etc. are reported according to Agency policy and protocol.
- Serves as back up for other transportation positions.
- Adheres to agency policies and procedures; follows and supports agency mission, vision and values including participating in internal surveys and data collection for continuous improvement initiatives.
- This position will comply will all federal, state and local laws and regulations, including those or ORR, ICE and the NYS Office of Children and Family Services
Job Requirements
- Minimum of High School Diploma and/or equivalent.
- Minimum of 1-3 years of driving experience.
- First Aide / CPR Certification.
- TCI Certification.
- Full COVID-19 vaccination required.
- Must have a current, valid driver’s license per Agency guidelines. Travel required.
- Able to work with a culturally and economically diverse population
- Bilingual Required (English to Spanish)
