We need a talented individual to fill the potential role of Biomedical Data Engineer/Scientist in support of the 711th Human Performance Wing, the Airman Systems Directorate (RH), and the United States Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine (USAFSAM) in the Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio area. In this position, the successful candidate will be responsible for, but not be limited to:

  • Develop custom software applications for live-streaming data, biomedical data processing, data visualization, and other custom software applications for both new capabilities and enhancement of existing capabilities.
  • Responsible for managing/maintaining software licenses within the research laboratory (e.g., MATLAB, Python, LabVIEW, JMP, TEMA, etc.)
  • Exhibit competence in performing in-depth system analysis of research project objectives and processes in order to accurately translate them into the best software solution.
  • Ensure discovered problems are clearly defined and communicated; and the necessary corrective actions are employed and/or risk is mitigated to support research project(s) execution.
  • Work independently, have strong attention to detail, have strong English skills, good organizational skills, initiative in performing assigned tasks, and the ability to follow-up complex projects.
  • Participate in statistical analysis and development of mathematical algorithms to solve problems in: behavioral sciences, human physiology, engineering and physics; this includes development of algorithms for multi-body kinematics, nonlinear analyses, etc.
  • Shall conduct any other functions and duties recognized as being necessary to conduct their primary role within the scope of the effort.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Possess one of the following minimum education requirements and years’ experience: Bachelor’s degree in engineering or computer science or similar area of study, with a minimum 4 years of relevant experience or; Master’s degree in engineering or computer science or similar area of study, with a minimum 2 years of relevant experience or; Ph.D. in engineering or computer science or similar area of study.
  • Have demonstrated software development skills and experience with designing and/or implementing network protocols, OpenGL or DirectX experience and interfacing with external devices (input devices and/or measurement devices).
  • Experience with the planning, building, testing, optimization, and maintenance of data ecosystems.
  • Experience with MATLAB, Python, TensorFlow, LabView, SQL.
  • Experience with writing technical documentation based upon customer specifications for both software and hardware development. This includes, but is not limited to Functional Requirements Documents, System Design Documents, use cases, system topologies, Test plans, Deployment Plans, and training material.
  • Experience in working in a research laboratory environment and have strong communication skills.
  • Experience in providing direction and supervising other members of technical staff (mid-level, junior engineers/computer scientists).
  • Must be U.S. Citizen.
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance or higher.
  • Have a signed Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) in place with their company based on the potential access to confidential, proprietary, and/or sensitive information.
