Primary Purpose
Provides support for birth registry operations at Parkland to maintain compliance with state and national standards and requirements.
Minimum Specifications
Experience
- Must have one (1) year of experience utilizing medical terminology to analyze charts.
- Equivalent Education and/or Experience
- May have an equivalent combination of education and/or experience in lieu of specific education and/or experience as stated above.
Skills or Special Abilities
- Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of anatomy and physiology concepts.
- Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of medical terminology.
- Must be able to interact well with physicians and other hospital staff.
- Must be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of computers, word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
- Must be bilingual (English & Spanish).
- Must successfully pass the Spanish Language Oral Skills Assessment examination prior to employment.
Responsibilities
- Birth Registry Interviews mothers and completes worksheets and forms. Enters patient information into the registry database, making changes as needed to ensure that correct birth information is maintained.
- Retrieves basic information from the medical charts of mother and baby for completion of the medical backs of the birth registration.
- Explains the paternity process, to include the Acknowledgment of Paternity (AOP) form, to ensure fathers are aware of their legal options and documentation is completed accurately.
- Generates monthly reports from computerized registry database. Reviews all patient electronic files/encounters for current information according to policy. Collects complete, accurate and pertinent data and accurately enters all data into the registry computerized database.
- Supports efforts to maintain registry standards and reporting requirements. Assists department manager with administrative tasks and other duties as needed.

- Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction. Makes recommendations to supervisor, implements, and monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall goals of the department and Parkland.
- Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations, and/or maintaining certification or licensure. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
- Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact the area. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding.
