Job Title: Bus Driver

SUMMARY:

Operate gas or diesel Bus/ Van on routes for Eastern Star Church and JEWEL Summer Enrichment Camp. Obey all city and state traffic laws and safety regulations. Adhere to all policies and procedures of Eastern Star Church and Jewel Summer Enrichment Camp.

Essential duties and Responsibilities:

1. Obtains route assignment, van keys, cell phone and garage door opener from Security Officer or Facilities Coordinator.

2. Logs out all van keys, and cell phones on log-out sheet located in the facilities office.

3. Performs a visual inspection to observe any possible damage to vehicle before and after route.

4. Reports to starting point of assigned route/field trip 20 min. before departing time.

5. Log all trips on the Bus/Van login sheet (including time, date, and mileage) located in each van.

6. Discard any debris found in Van/Bus. Turn in any personal items left in the vehicle to lost and found.

7. Helps elderly and /or handicapped persons to board and exit the vehicle.

8. Report any vehicle safety issues to the Building Superintendent and Security.

9. Reports accidents immediately to Law Enforcement agency, and/or ambulance service as needed and the Building Superintendent and Director of Facilities immediately.

10. Assists injured persons, using the first-aid kit if necessary, until help arrives. Complete accident/incident report.

Qualifications

Must be at least 21 years of age with a valid driver’s license and an excellent driving record, verified through the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles department.

Candidates must pass a pre-employment drug screening as specified in the Eastern Star Church Policies and Procedures handbook.

Candidates must be able to work independently, and be able to work variable shifts, and variable work days including some evenings and weekends.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); Chauffeurs Driver’s License or 1 year transportation/driving experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience totaling one year.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND QUALIFICATIONS

Organizational skills: scheduling skills: Knowledge of traffic safety rules; Able to follow driving directions: Ability to read a standard map.
