Summary:

The Buying Specialist will work directly with the Purchasing Manager to develop and understand the California Feed Division by assisting in the procurement of commodity ingredients, maintenance of mixed feed contracts, monitoring and reporting ingredient usage, and price discovery for commodity ingredients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in managing the California Feed Division’s Procurement System
  • Develop an understanding of the procurement system
  • Grow into responsibility of procuring selected commodities
  • Grow into responsibility of managing positions of assigned commodities
  • Develop an understanding of Contracting System and proper Maintenance
  • Work with Purchasing Assistant to insure intra-company contracts are entered correctly
  • Work with formulation department to insure proper contract use
  • Develop a system of tracking mixed contracts
  • Develop an understanding of Ingredient Usage
  • Track daily usage of commodity ingredients by plant
  • Maintain and monitor projected use of each commodity ingredient
  • Work with Logistics Team to help manage plant inventory
  • Assist the Purchasing Manager in Price Discovery
  • Daily price discovery with JDHCo Traders
  • Communicate daily Brill values to Formulations Team
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Procurement, Logistics or related field required.
  • Minimum 1-2 years experience in procurement preferred.
  • Advanced computer skills with experience in order processing system and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly adapt to changing conditions and solve problems quickly.
  • Ability to work well cross-functionally with others and maintain a high level of professionalism in a fast-paced atmosphere.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership for outcomes while prioritizing and juggling multiple projects.
  • Strong interpersonal, written communication, and organizational skills.

Physical Demands

  • Frequent sitting, use of computer, communication via telephone
  • Ability to navigate an office environment.
