We’re looking for enthusiastic, energetic, responsible individuals who enjoy spending time outdoors and helping children thrive to join our Summer Camp Team! If this sounds like you, apply to be a camp counselor at the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA today. Our camp counselors provide direct supervision to a group of children during the Day Camp Program. They also provide a quality experience to children and parents focused on the YMCA core values of honesty, respect, responsibility and caring.

Essential functions include, but are not limited, to: providing active supervision to a group of children in the program at all times, including during travel on busses; planning and implementing indoor and outdoor program activities that are developmentally-appropriate and consistent with YMCA values; adhering to program standards including health, safety and cleanliness standards; following YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies; maintaining positive relations with parents and other staff, and modeling relationship-building skills and interest in an individual child’s activities; setting a positive example that will influence favorable conduct by the children, and more.
CAMP COUNSELOR QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum age 16.
- Possess basic experience working with children.
- Possess CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention trainings.
- Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.
- Ability to communicate with parents and relate effectively with the children in the program.
- Ability to work as a team with other YMCA staff members.
SENIOR CAMP COUNSELOR QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum age 18.
- High school graduate or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working with children in a professional child care/camp setting.
- CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention trainings.
- Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.
- Ability to communicate with parents and relate effectively with the children in the program.
- Ability to work as a leader within the group and as a team with other YMCA staff members.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings.
