JOB SUMMARY
A registered nurse who is a member of the Cancer Center management team. Responsible for the management of a defined patient population registered to clinical trials at the medical center and includes orchestration of all activities involving the recruitment and enrollment of study subjects, and managing the critical study documentation and data collection necessary including patient satisfaction for adult patients 18 yrs. and older in outpatient and inpatient settings.
Supports medical, radiation and surgical oncology research activities at the hospital devoting substantial time and effort to each by serving as liaison with the national study groups, academic affiliates and pharmaceutical companies to develop and maintain research protocols, serving as liaison with the Institutional Review Board coordinating research activities with physicians and their office staff, communicating and coordinating with departments and committees of the medical staff, screening patients and placing them on protocols, serving as liaison with patients and family members to explain options, provide informed consents and explain treatment to be expected, coordinating activities between the involved physicians, patients and all departments involved in providing test and treatments to these patients, and providing educational and outreach activities to community organizations.
Also responsible for management of human, fiscal, and other resources, development of personnel, and compliance with regulatory and professional standards. The inventory, distribution/inventory of study medications is required.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Related Master’s degree preferred, B.S.N. Degree., Certification in oncology nursing preferred. Credentialed and up to date in all GCP, CITI, FDA and other regulatory agencies
Licensure: Licensure as a registered nurse in the state of Georgia
Experience: Experience with CALGB, NRG, NCI, NCITN, NSABP and preferably other national study groups and the management of their respective investigational protocols. Advanced knowledge of cancer data management including disease process and constantly evolving treatment trends. Also proficiency in Medical Terminology, ICD-1O, SEER, AJCC staging schemes, anatomy and physiology. Demonstrated proficiency in computer principles, anatomy, physiology and histology, abstracting and coding, statistics and epidemiology, coding of International Classification of Diseases and coding per the standards set by the American College of Surgeons.
