Department of Commerce/Division of Natural Resources (DNR)/Parks/Cacapon Resort State Park/Morgan County-Under general supervision of the Cacapon Resort State Park Superintendent, this employee acts as the Golf Course Superintendent of Cacapon’s Robert Trent Jones designed eighteen-hole golf course.

This employee will plan, organize, direct, and evaluate all related turf maintenance activities of the golf course including mowing and trimming, seeding, fertilizing, applying pesticides, watering greens, tees, and fairways, trimming trees and shrubs, maintaining roughs, bunkers, irrigation systems, cart paths, shelters, and ponds.

This employee will develop short-term and long-range plans on the overall maintenance of the golf course; will oversee the daily work of greenskeepers, applicators, technicians, and grounds workers assigned to the golf course; evaluates the condition of the golf course turf and determines appropriate methods to improve the condition; determines the need for fertilization, aeration, watering, weed control or other means necessary to maintain a healthy, well-maintained, and aesthetically pleasing course.

Will monitor the playability of the golf course and take appropriate actions when required; will develop goals and objectives including capital expenditure requests, preventative and reactive maintenance needs, and capital equipment requests; actively supervise golf course maintenance staff and ensures that staff operates and maintains all tools and equipment assigned in a secure and safe manner; performs related personnel work to include scheduling, interviewing, selecting, evaluating performance and performing progressive discipline; maintains knowledge of current trends, challenges and developments related to the turf industry and local environment.

Works closely with the Golf Pro Shop Manager to ensure minimal conflict between operational objectives and maintenance work. May be required to work or perform duties during special events and tournaments. Possess excellent customer service and hospitality skills. Performs related duties as assigned.

Training: Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited four-year college or university with a major in horticulture, agronomy, plant pathology or related field. Substitution: Experience as described below may substitute for the training requirement on a year-for-year basis. Experience: Three years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in landscaping, nursery, or grounds maintenance, one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity. Special Requirement: May require an employee to possess a pesticide applicator's certification if applying pesticides regulated by law.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $36,779.00 - $68,041.00 per year
