POSITION: ULTRASOUND CARDIOVASCULAR TECHNOLOGIST
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The General Ultrasound/Cardiovascular Technologist job requires the sonographer/technologist to utilize color-flow duplex ultrasound and physiologic testing equipment to produce ultrasound images and related data, which is used by physicians to render a medical diagnosis. The Technologist is also responsible for the performance of the following duties.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or its equivalent
- Previous experience working in healthcare
- Fluency in basic medical abbreviations
- Minimum of two years of experience in both vascular technology and echocardiography; highly preferable
- Compliance with, and maintenance of, appropriate state licensures
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Able to work independently while also comfortable working within a team
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
- Strong organizational and time-management skills; detail-oriented
The qualified candidate for this position must be able to utilize color-flow, duplex, ultrasound, and physiologic testing equipment to produce ultrasound images and related data; these images and data are used by cardiologists and other medical specialists to help them reach accurate diagnoses. The qualified candidate must be able to perform all of the functions listed below:
- Set up, operate, clean, and maintain equipment in accordance with manufacturer guidelines; report any equipment failures
- Move and adjust the testing equipment to optimize test results; apply ergonomic principles appropriate to the situation
- Prepare the patient for the examination; this includes explaining the procedure; facilitating patient’s change of clothing, if necessary; adjusting the examination table, and other equipment and furnishings, as necessary
- Identify and select the proper transducer, both type and frequency, for the specific examination being performed
- Obtain, review, and retrieve relevant patient histories, physical exams, and supporting clinical data to facilitate accurate diagnoses
- Determine priorities for requested outpatient studies; revise schedules, as needed, to perform emergency studies in accordance with medical protocols
- Identify significant, possibly life-threatening, abnormalities during testing; inform appropriate medical personnel before releasing the patient in accordance with physician instructions
- Demonstrate critical thinking skills in all clinical and operational situations
- Ensure patient and employee safety by following company policies, procedures, and protocols
- Provide the interpreting physician with either an oral or written preliminary summary of technical findings; this should be performed at the discretion of the interpreting physician
- Complete and submit all documentation; this includes, but is not limited to, logs, billing requisitions, physician orders, and patient authorizations; this should be performed in a timely manner
- Maintain an inventory of necessary supplies for all testing sites
- Communicate with one’s supervisor on a regular basis regarding scheduling and any other concerns
- Comply with all corporate policies, including environmental regulations governing patient and staff health and safety
- Maintain valid credentials through participation in on-going technological professional training
- Comply with all regulatory requirements, including accreditations and credentialing
- Perform additional duties as assigned by one’s supervisor
