The Fick & Sons Diesel Garage, is operating out of our new state-of-the-art 33,000 square ft. facility on 4 Mile Rd off I-75 in Grayling, Michigan.

We provide fast and dependable repair and service to our clients around Northern Michigan, providing 24hr roadside service and diesel repair to Grayling, Gaylord, Kalkaska and more! We strive to create customers for life by meeting our customers needs and exceeding expectations. Fick & Sons is a proud supporter of our local business, military, law enforcement, firefighters, and EMS personnel. In addition to our diesel garage, we provide propane services along with gas & oil transport (commercial & residential). Fick & Sons has been proudly serving Northern Michigan since 1958.

Job Description

We are looking for an applicant that is experienced in propane bobtails & fuel/propane tankers. Maintains diesel equipment operation by completing inspections and preventative maintenance requirements; correcting vehicle deficiencies; and keeping records.

Responsibilities

• Qualified as a Registered Inspector – VK/VNIK Inspections
• Proper techniques for welding (GMAW) mild steel, Stainless Steel & Aluminum
• Able to diagnose and repair problems
• Able to perform DOT Inspection
• Understands electrical and hydraulic systems
• Basic use of gas detection device
• MIG/TIG welding w/fabrication skills
• Up Fit, maintenance and repair of heavy-duty trucks and tanks
• Understand basic principles of propane and safe handling
• Able to work at high elevation and/or in confined spaces
• Experience working on heavy duty trucks (bobtail, construction), welding, and mechanical experience
• Must have own toolbox and basic tools
• Able to operate small hand tools, cutting torches
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Qualifications

• Mechanic Certificate with 4 required HDT certs in drive train, brakes, suspension, and electrical
• Fifth year college or university program certificate; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to lift up to 150 pounds
• Excellent reading, writing, and communication skills
• Ability to pass a background check and drug test
• Authorized to work in the United States

Experience:

• Mechanical knowledge: 1 year (Preferred)
