Job Summary:

Facilities Construction Services, a self-sustaining unit, is the University’s in-house provider for small projects including renovations, providing cabinetry or shelving, accommodating new equipment, signage, flooring, and correcting space deficiencies. This work is done by skilled trades personnel to professional journeyman standards.This position exits to perform carpentry work including custom cabinet making, countertops, shelving, wood and metal doors, wood and metal stud walls, ceiling tile and grid, and drywall installation. This position performs wall covering installation, cove base and ceiling tiles, floor covering, and concrete repairs. This position will perform work on both the Anschutz Medical Campus, and the Denver Campus, but will report primarily to the Anschutz Campus. This position is essential in providing backup support for Facilities Building Zone Staff.

Anticipated Salary Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position is $3,851 - $4,662 per month

  • This position may be eligible for a one time non-base building sign-on bonus up to $2,000. Details of this recruitment incentive program will be provided during the interview process.
  • This position is eligible for overtime compensation

Examples of Work Performed:

Carpentry (50%):

  • Performs carpentry work including custom cabinet making, countertops, shelving, wood and metal doors, wood and metal stud walls, ceiling tile and grid, drywall installation, bathroom partition installation. P
  • Performs wall covering installation, cove base and ceiling tile.
  • Installs name plates, signage, decals, frosting, pictures, shelving, white boards, bulletin boards, electronic displays, and various dispensers.
  • Assembles desks, furniture, and cabinetry.
  • This position is essential in providing backup support for Facilities Building Zone Staff.

Repair Work (30%):

  • Repairs and corrects cosmetic and functional issues with desks, chairs, cabinets, and various furniture.
  • Repairs and makes adjustments to doors, windows, and window shades.
  • Repairs damage to walls, ceilings, and floors.

Furniture and Equipment Moving (15%):

  • Assists with unpacking, moving and relocating office furniture such as desk, chairs, and tables. This position assists with unpacking, moving and relocating laboratory equipment such as ultra-low freezers, bio-safety cabinets, centrifuges, and incubators.

Auxiliary Duties (5%):

  • Participates and assists in emergencies based on the magnitude and nature. Supports various special events both in preparation and during the event (i.e. Commencement). May be assigned other duties as required.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least 4 years’ of experience working in commercial or residential carpentry
  • Substitution: Appropriate education or successful completion of a formalized apprenticeship program may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Colorado law requires that candidates for state government jobs be residents of Colorado at the time of application.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in estimating time, materials and schedule for completing projects
  • Experience in demolition (i.e. walls, structures, ceilings and grid, cabinets, countertops, locks, doors, floor tile, plumbing, electrical and HVAC systems).
