Summary of Position

The Salvation Army - Norther Division is hiring a Case Manager for Sherburne County. The Case Manager will provide case management services to families and individuals who have experienced homelessness, and provide direct services of HeatShare and Emergency Social Services to the community in a professional manner. Also assists with the recruitment of Pathway of Hope families.


This is a fulltime regular position with a work week expectation of 40 hours per week. Expected pay is $20-22 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.

Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in human services or related field.
  • Experience working in a social service setting preferred.
  • Understanding of the delivery of Social Services.
  • Ability to work well with clients of diverse cultural and socioeconomic groups, respect confidentiality, and ability to work within the ethical and legal parameters of social services.
  • Ability to accept supervision and work with a team of co-workers.
  • Familiarity with Sherburne County and neighboring counties preferred.
  • Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet deadlines, and complete tasks with a minimum of direction.
  • Ability to use Salvation Army approved word processing, spreadsheet, data base management, and graphics/desktop publishing software packages.
  • Valid Driver's License. (Must meet the guidelines provided by the State of residence and the automobile insurance provider as pertaining to corps’ passenger vans/buses.)
  • Must pass The Salvation Army background checks and meet the MVR driver’s qualifications.
  • Must complete The Salvation Army Caseworker Certification Program within twelve (12 months of hire.
  • Must have availability Monday through Friday during office hours with occasional evening and/or weekend hours.
  • Willingness to support the philosophy, goals, objectives, and mission of The Salvation Army.
  • It must be understood by the incumbent that the provisions of Safe From Harm will apply upon commencement of employment and also understood that the required Safe From Harm training be satisfactorily completed within the first thirty (30) days of employment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

This job description is not all inclusive. It is intended to identify the essential duties of the position. Other duties, responsibilities and tasks may be assigned by the Twin Cities Housing and Asset Manager or the Assistant Divisional Social Services Director.


  • Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relationships with co-workers and supervisors.   • Adhere to the guiding principles of The Salvation Army's social services ministries as outlined in Faith In Action with an emphasis on intentional outreach in the area of holistic care to those we serve.
  • Engage all social service clients (including and not limited to, POH, EH families/children, etc.) in a way that brings them to the Corps for programming, events, and activities.
  • Be knowledgeable of all Salvation Army Social Service and Corps programs.
  • Provide effective case management to individuals and families who have experienced homelessness, including assessment, goal planning, resource and referral, social skills support and education.
  • Work effectively with community partners including property owners and management staff.
  • Determine eligibility for emergency programs including rental assistance, HeatShare, vouchers, etc, and assist in application, provide options, and make referrals.
  • Complete all case noting and other documentation promptly. Effectively utilize electronic records systems. (SIMS and HMIS).
  • Maintain required statistics (i.e. The Salvation Army stats, client files, United Way, etc.) as requested by supervisor.
  • Participate in office, county, and department meetings and other meetings as appropriate; participate in community networking meetings as appropriate.
  • Work on personal, office, and department goals.
  • Participate in monthly supervision meetings with supervisor.
  • Promote Pathway of Hope throughout the community and make Pathway of Hope referrals as appropriate.
  • Assist in planning and implementation of seasonal activities as requested.
  • Assist with other department functions.
  • Attend educational opportunities when appropriate.
  • Other duties that is specific to the office location and as assigned by supervisor.
