Job Title: Engineering Specialist
Reports to: Caribbean Center for Rising Seas Program Manager
Location / Hours: San Juan / Full Time one (1 ) year Contract.
Purpose:
The Engineering Specialist (EngS) will help develop the objectives regarding safety margins and engineering implications of sea level rise and content, as well as oversee their written and graphic expression. The EngS is responsible for assessing and ensuring the quality delivery of those objectives throughout the various CCRS programs and schedules. The EngS will be engaged in the development of material directed at the creation of various sub-programs. Through active program evaluation, the Engineering Specialist will also assess the effectiveness and efficiency of our programs and make necessary recommendations to enable their success. The selected applicant will have a great opportunity to learn and apply knowledge about the local and global sea level rise scenarios while interacting with a variety of professionals, companies, and government agencies, all in an innovative environment.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:
- Among the EngS’s most important activities for the CCRS Program are:
- Identify, analyze, and depict key engineering criteria in context to the overall program and each project.
- Helps align project goals with other existing policies.
- Distill, summarize, and graph key data/statistics (Research).
- Analyze, understand, prepare reports, prepare presentations, and deliver advice on Engineering Sectors, current projects, and building code updates.
- Helps identify project and program strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats, particularly as relates to engineering aspects. Helps identify engineering barriers or obstacles to project and program success.
- Common tasks include Thorough note taking, thorough and accurate record-keeping, regularly sharing ideas for continuous improvement, Calendar administration/scheduling, Coordination, follow-ups, office administration, ordering supplies, and answering requests for information. Perform other related tasks that the Program Manager might request to manage and in support of overall program strategies.
- Helps develop, deliver, and organize the various sub-programs and activities following the mission and goals of the CCRS program.
- Work with the Director and the Program Manager to develop and present for approval an operating plan for the program while enhancing the organization’s capabilities, network, sources, and resources that might support the operation.
- Help plan, schedule, and promote organizational events, meetings, conferences, interviews, orientations, and training sessions of the CCRS.

Qualifications & Technical Job Requirements:
- Passionate about innovation in engineering as we face climate change and rising seas. Enthusiastically interested in developing and delivering innovative, unique, cost-effective, engineering solutions.
- Knowledge of tools, techniques, measures, procedures, and methodologies regarding engineering practice and perspectives.
- Experience in virtual meeting software (Zoom, Teams, etc.).
- Excellent organizational and prioritization skills.
- Keen attention to detail and commentary from supervisors.
- Committed to providing excellent customer service when interacting with all kinds of groups.
- Strong communication, listening, synthesizing, and presentation skills. Strong command of written and verbal communication in both English and Spanish.
- Ability to work within a team and provide support to direct supervisors.
- Ability to perform job responsibilities in a cross-functional team approach.
- A proficient computer user with strong knowledge of software programs and the Internet.
Experience & Educational Requirements:
- Engineering Science or Professional Civil, Structural, Environmental, or Geotechnical Engineering Degree from an accredited institution. Other physical science
- Backgrounds will be considered. Engineering students in the last year of their course of study are welcome to apply if they have full-time availability.
- In the case of candidates with professional engineering training, being admitted to professional practice in Puerto Rico, being a member of the CIAPR, or being in the process of obtaining this certification is not a requirement but is encouraged.
- The candidate must demonstrate some experience in civil, structural, and/or environmental engineering analysis, research, design, advice, and/or related activities.
- Willingness and ability to travel within the jurisdictional limits of Puerto Rico and possibly to the U.S. Virgin Islands and the U.S. mainland, pending public health and safety guidelines.
