PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:
Responsible for the safe professional operation of the vehicle with on time deliveries while serving as a direct representative of SCT.

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITY:
  • Perform all duties in accordance with company policies and procedures, complies with all federal, state, and local regulations for the secure and safe operation of a commercial motor vehicle
  • Understands and carries out instructions given orally and in writing, including those on manifests, bills of lading, and other shipping documents to determine the location and time of delivery
  • Safely operate tractor trailer equipment in different configurations as assigned, with varying weights as allowed by law, under all types of climatic conditions, terrain, road conditions, and traffic situations, in urban, and rural settings, either direct or by way of other intermediate points, in accordance with all federal, state and local laws, and regulations as well as company policy
  • Frequently communicates with Dispatch/Operations, in person or by way of QualComm, or telephone, in order to advise of movements, problems with equipment, cargo, delays, etc.
  • Make accurate and timely deliveries of all product to customers
  • Must be able to adjust to new procedures and innovations, which may add to the efficiency and safety of our operation
  • Follow all instructions issued by the Trucking Supervisor and notify him of any problems while on the road
  • Be kind, courteous, and patient with all customers both internal and external, and their employees, as you are a direct representative of SCT
  • Keep interior of tractor clean and sanitary at all times
  • Report all mechanical and safety problems in your pre and post trip vehicle inspection reports
  • Complete all required paperwork accurately and neatly, and turn in at the completion of each trip
  • Report all accidents and/or damage to vehicle to Trucking Supervisor immediately, if possible, obtain a copy of the accident report filled out by local authorities
  • Must pass Southern Champion Tray driving test
  • Average trip mileage of 700 miles to 1,500 miles depending on the time of the year
  • Will average 3 nights out per week
  • Part time driver must supply their availability no later than Tuesday of the prior week
  • Will not be eligible for new equipment regardless of tenure as new equipment will be assigned to full time drivers
  • If a driver wants to change to full time they will go in at the bottom of the seniority list for full time drivers
  • Location of trips will vary, but will include:
  • East coast – OH, MD, MI, NC, SC, GA, FL
  • Destinations are not limited to certain regions
  • Pay is the same as full time drivers

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); three years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Live within one hour of Chattanooga, Tennessee. Verifiable recent full time over-the-road driving experience with tractor/trailer equipment in major cities such as New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Miami, etc. No more than one moving violation in the last 12 months with no more than two violations in the past 36 months. No chargeable accidents for the past 3 years. Must present neat, clean, professional appearance at all times while on duty. Must be available and cover long haul trips as needed. Must have basic computer skills and possess ability to utilize software.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Must have the ability to read and understand documents, letters, etc. and write legibly in English. Must be able to understand and speak clearly, communicate, and understand directions in English as needed.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Must have the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide both fractions and decimals, solve equations, read a tape measure, and have an understanding of both standard and metric measuring systems.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Maintain valid CDL driver’s license and current DOT physical examination adhering to Federal Motor Carrier regulations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, regularly required to walk, stand, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls and reach with arms and hands. Frequently required to climb, balance, twist, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, frequently must lift/move 25 to 50 pounds. Must be able to perform these functions for a minimum of 8 hours straight (with a 30-minute meal break any other applicable breaks during his/her shift) on a regular basis. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a Team member successfully performing the essential functions of this job. Regular attendance and reporting for work on time are necessary requirements as is availability for overtime work if necessary.
