Job Summary

HRI, Inc., a leader in heavy civil construction since 1947 and a Colas company, has an opening for an experienced energetic CDL Apprentice for our Reynoldsville, Curtain Gap, and Muncy locations within our Highway Road Construction Division. Candidates do not need any prior training or experience to apply. Our operating market includes Central, Southern, Eastern and Western parts of Pennsylvania. A CDL Apprentice will complete the full training program and pass the final driving test to obtain their Class A or B CDL.

Main Responsibilities

  • Must have a current Pennsylvania Driver’s License
  • Meet all federal and state requirements for a Class A license
  • Obtain a current medical examination certificate that has been administered by a certified D.O.T. Physician
  • Be able to pass a controlled substance test
  • Complete entirety of the training program (160 hours/ 4 weeks)
  • Learn to operate truck equipped with a dump body to transport and dump loose materials such as sand, gravel, crushed rock, coal, and bituminous paving materials; or must operate a truck equipped with a water tank to transport and spread water on job sites
  • Conduct pre-trip inspection checklist on equipment such as tires, lights, brakes, gas, oil, and water
  • Must be able to handle paperwork concerning Department of Transportation regulations, freight weigh bills, fuel tickets and load tickets
  • Must be able to carry out detailed instructions, take directions to job sites, but also must be able to use good judgement in decision making and be able to work without direct supervision.
  • Must be able to oil, grease and fuel truck
  • Must have the ability to operate the vehicle safely in traffic situations and follow the policies and procedures of the company

Education

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving history

Skills

  • Ability to learn quickly and follow detailed instructions
  • Must be able to work varying shifts and long hours dependent on market demands

Physical Requirements

  • Wears and maintains personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by company safety guidelines
  • Regularly required to communicate (talk and hear)
  • Frequently required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms
  • Standing/working on feet for long periods
  • Must comply with the company’s drug and alcohol testing requirements
  • Good work ethic, professional, and positive attitude
