Description of Position

Certified Peer Specialist is part of a multi- and inter-disciplinary team and provides information as well as emotional support to clients of ACCS program. Skill in providing peer support and response to client expressed needs within a trauma-informed care lens using evidence-based practices required. Work is within a fast-paced environment engaging clients within Group Living Environments and the community. Belief in hope and recovery for all is guiding approach.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Coaching and consultation to consumers to promote recovery and self-direction (e.g., preparation for role in treatment planning meetings);
  • Facilitating wellness management and recovery strategies (e.g., Wellness Recovery Action Plans (WRAP), Illness Management and Recovery (IMR), or other deliberate wellness strategies);
  • Participating in all team activities (e.g., treatment planning, chart notes) equivalent to fellow team members;
  • Modeling skills for and providing consultation to fellow team members; and
  • Providing cross-training to other team members in recovery principles and strategies.

Requirements

There is no specific educational requirement for this position but certification as a Certified Peer Specialist is expected within one year of hire; Certification as a WRAP trainer a plus; a degree in human services and/or relevant experience working with mentally ill adults preferred. Knowledge of recovery process and core values of the recovery movement.

Must have lived experience as a person in recovery with at least two years of sustained recovery time; experience working with diverse populations; Must possess good organizational skills, effective written, verbal and computer skills. Expectation of achieving Certification as Peer Specialist within 6 months post start date.

Must have a valid driver’s license in the state of residence and submit a copy of satisfactory record of driving from the state of residence of registry of motor vehicles; Must complete MA and ADP Criminal Offense Record Information (CORI) process; Must have computer literacy as related to the requirements of the position; Must be flexible with hours to support needs of 24/7/365 program.
