Job description
The Talent Acquisition department hires qualified candidates to fill positions which contribute to the overall strategic success of Howard University. Hiring staff “for fit” makes significant contributions to Howard University’s overall mission.
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under general supervision, is responsible for posting all office charges to patient accounts after checking for completeness and accuracy.
PRINCIPAL
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Receives and reviews charge documents from the clinic.

Ensures charge information provided is correct and accurate.

Balances Charge Summary to tickets keyed before updating charges.

Keeps supervisor apprised of matters regarding charge entry.

Bills and enters charges in a timely manner in a high volume setting.

Enter charge data on each patient into the patient accounting system with high level of accuracy. Expected performance is to enter 150+ charge tickets per day.
Batch charge tickets and file cabinets.
Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM
REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of Medic and IDX / ALLScripts systems.

Knowledge of medical terminology.

Skill in keyboarding/data entry.

Skill in computer applications including MS Word, MS Excel.

Skill in verbal and written communication.

Skill in gathering and reporting information.

Ability to work effectively with staff, physicians and external customers.

Must have a pleasant disposition and be a team player.

Basic knowledge of coding.
Knowledge of specialty medical practices.

Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
High School graduate or equivalent. Minimum of two years’ experience in a healthcare business office is required. Prefer billing/coding experience in a healthcare organization.
