The Chemistry Lab Coordinator will:
- Maintain laboratory instruments to ensure proper working order and troubleshoot malfunction
- Stay updated on Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) compliance
- Supervise the use, labeling, storage, and disposal of flammable, poisonous, corrosive, or other hazardous materials
- Conduct training of staff on hazardous materials and the use of equipment
- Maintain laboratory equipment, facilitate vendor visits in case of service needs
- Maintain equipment inventory (SharePoint)
- Maintains chemical inventory and safety data sheet both internally and in NASA database
- Monitor the condition and status of dated or unstable chemicals
- Maintain Satellite Accumulation Areas
- Prepares purchase orders for instructional materials, supplies and equipment
- Write, edit, and maintain lab manual and standard operating procedures
- Maintain laboratory documentation
- Maintain lab related information on internal SharePoint site
- Revises and implements the chemical hygiene plan and emergency response plan in coordination with division safety engineer
- Assist personnel with the handling and use of chemicals as research requires
- Other duties as assigned
Requisition Qualifications:
- BS degree from an accredited college or university in an associated technical discipline.
- Must demonstrate a working knowledge of chemical hazards and be comfortable handling hazardous chemicals
- Excellent verbal communication and written presentation skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills, and be able to work in a highly matrixed, collaborative environment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including SharePoint
- Must demonstrate ability to follow through on assignments using established procedures and work independently
Requisition Preferences:
- Requires a BS degree from an accredited college or university in a physical science discipline.
- Preferred candidates will demonstrate:
- Ability to operate centrifuges, microscopes and other auxiliary equipment used in a chemical laboratory
- Knowledge of chemical safety and storage; experience working with acid solutions and other hazardous materials
