BASIC FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITY: Assist children in all aspects of their daily activities; providing a healthy and safe environment, the opportunity to develop stable and caring relationships, and providing an environment that fosters cognitive, social and emotional growth for all children in the center.

Student Support:

  • Assist children and lead small groups; inform director of a child’s special needs or problems; call parents to discuss students’ progress or disciplinary problems; monitor student behavior; discipline children as necessary.
  • May assist students with basic physical/medical needs, which may include feeding, lifting, and personal hygiene.
  • Assist in resolving parent/student issues and concerns in a timely manner.
  • Assist in managing student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.

Support of Administrative, Fiscal and/or Facilities Functions:

  • Create bulletin boards and other educational displays/materials; ensure that specific materials and supplies are ready for classroom use; operate equipment; maintain safe instructional area; perform clerical duties.
  • Assist in analyzing facilities, equipment and material needs for optimum teaching and learning.
  • Monitor the inventory, use, care, repair and replacement of program materials and equipment.
  • Assist in compiling, maintaining, and filing all reports, records and other documents required for all areas of responsibility including responding to telephone calls and correspondence,
  • Attend meetings as requested by supervisor including planning meetings, departmental meetings, staff development, community meetings, etc.
  • Provide assistance to campuses/departments as requested.

  • Interact positively with employees and the community to provide needed information and to promote the District in a favorable manner.

  • Communicate and collaborate with department staff to enhance service delivery and customer satisfaction.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law, including but not limited to State Board of Education and local Board policy.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of designated campus child care center policies/procedures
  • Knowledge of early childhood and child development
  • Knowledge of math, reading, and writing.
  • Knowledge of techniques used in assisting special needs students.
  • Knowledge of Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), First Aid and Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
  • Skill in applying acceptable classroom behavior.
  • Skill in coping with a variety of children in stressful situations.
  • Skill in working with young children.
  • Skill in communicating effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work responsibilities.

ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent, one year of related experience, and a current CPR/First Aid certificate.

PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS:

  • Maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Work with frequent interruptions.
  • Sit, walk, stand, stoop, and bend on a frequent basis
  • Work extended and irregular hours.
  • Lift and move up to 50 lbs. frequently.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:

  • Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Work involves moderate to frequent exposure to bacteria, communicable diseases, unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
  • Work involves constant interpersonal interactions within an educational environment.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.50 - $18.68 per hour
