Applicants must also apply via the Minnesota Merit System: http://agency.governmentjobs.com/mnmeritsystem/default.cfmUnder the general direction of the Social Services Supervisor, the Child Protection Social Worker is responsible for providing social work services for the protection, rehabilitation and care of children and their families involving both voluntary and non-voluntary child protective service cases and including case management services for child protection cases, child welfare, children's mental health cases, minor parent, out-of-home placements, investigations and family assessments.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Performs and conduct intake services for the department, as assigned.Screens and documents incoming calls for a variety of social service issues.Assists them in identifying their needs and makes referrals to appropriate external or internal services.Coordinates emergency placements with foster homes, detention and law enforcement, as needed.Prepares maltreatment reports for children. Participates in daily screening team meetings of alleged child maltreatment reports.Documents and records all interactions in the SSIS program.Investigates reports of child maltreatment using the investigative or family assessment approach.Interviews all family members within 24 hours for investigations approach or 5 days for Family Assessment approach.Assesses child safety and well-being and makes determinations concerning maltreatment and/or the need for services. Contacts and coordinates with law enforcement for investigations.Presents all child protection cases, investigations, and assessments to the Child Protection Team. Performs case management functions for assigned child protection cases: Meets with clients in the home/field.Assesses and writes case plans, court reports, and maintains case records in accordance with federal, state and local guidelines and regulations.Makes referrals for services to internal and external agencies.Testifies in court.Supervises out-of-home placements.Provides case management services for mental health cases.Meets with clients; determines appropriate treatment and placements in the least restrictive setting; communicates with service providers; makes referrals for services; provides documentation to insurance companies or other providers.Completes assessment tools and develops individual family community support plan for each eligible child.Conducts home and background studies for adoption and guardianship cases.Recommends adoptive placements, communicates with service providers and DHS, obtains medical records, and determines eligibility for adoption assistance and kinship care.Conducts investigations and makes recommendations in step-parent adoptions and completes required paperwork for court. Monitors and performs case management activities for minor parents.Ensures parents are enrolled/attending school; have sufficient financial resources to care for and support themselves and family.Assists clients with adequate child care, family planning needs, family support services, medical services and/or other needed resources. Provides case management services to clients requesting or eligible for child welfare services.Prepares case plans; makes arrangements for services and maintains minimum monthly contact with children, parents and service providers. Maintains, documents, updates and enters case management activities in accordance with all program requirements and guidelines.Prepares court reviews and prepare for court hearings.Updates information in SSIS or related department databases, as required. Prepares regular and special reports, as required.Performs other duties of a comparable level or type, as required.Keeps abreast of changing trends, policies, best practices and developments in areas of responsibility.Attends conferences, seminars, regional meetings and participates in various professional organizations, as appropriate.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree is required in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology or closely related fieldA valid MN Driver's license.
