POSITION DESCRIPTION
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Maitre’D
DEPARTMENT: Food and Beverage
REPORTS TO: Senior Food and Beverage Manager
LEADS: Restaurant Hosts
Maitre’D
Summary
At The Dewberry, our primary focus is to become a part of our guests’ fondest memories no matter their reason for visiting. The Maitre’D will contribute to that focus by ensuring that each patron receives an exceptional level of customer service.
Since the Maitre’D is the first and last person that a guest interacts with, it is imperative to ensure that each guest receives a friendly, professional, and informative welcome and farewell. However, our Team wears many different hats, so you must be willing to get down to the nitty-gritty when necessary.
Essential Functions
Major areas of responsibility/management include, but are not limited to:
- Assist in the recruiting, managing, training, developing, and scheduling of Restaurant Hosts.
- Greet guests with a warm welcome and a friendly farewell.
- Assign tables to guests depending on party size and server availability.
- Manages waitlist and large party booking reservations through the Resy software.
- Accurately quote wait time for guests.
- Inform other Restaurant Hosts of upcoming patrons.
- Keeps the team informed of any special requests or notes on reservations.
- Maintains the knowledge regarding menu items; recommending or suggesting items as needed.
- Escorts guests to table and present food and drink menus.
- Handles guest concerns and complaints in a professional manner, escalating further to management as needed.
- Evaluate guest satisfaction levels with a focus on continuous improvement.
- Maintain the relationship with the Concierge, Guest Services, and Front Desk teams.
- Conduct daily pre-shift meetings with the Host team to communicate the expectations regarding service.
- Accountable for daily, weekly, or monthly reporting when desired.
Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree.
- Previous experience within a supervisory role. Experience within a luxury hotel preferred.
- Excellent Written and Oral Communication skills.
- Proficiency in Resy, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint a plus.
- Ability to deal with difficult internal and external guests with tact, professionalism and diplomacy.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of situations.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Required to stand for long periods of time and walk, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, stretch and twist or reach.
- Push, pull or lift up to 50 pounds.
- Continuous repetitive motions.
- Work in hot, humid and noisy environment.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
