Primary service in this position occurs with the implementation of after school biking programs for under served youth. This program uses mountain biking as a catalyst to promote increased physical activity and social emotional skills. The AmeriCorps member will have an essential role in this program through program implementation, volunteer recruitment and training, data collection and management, and mentoring. This project provides the AmeriCorps member with significant opportunity to advance their skills in program development, leadership, mentoring, community needs assessment and program quality assessment. The project also allows the AmeriCorps member ample opportunities to be creative. This project is in the Parks & Recreation Department; it is an individual placement but is part of a larger team of recreation staff and volunteers. The AmeriCorps member in this role must be able to work independently. A high level of initiative and an ability to be a self-driven is required.

Auburn Washington is a diverse, mid-sized city in the shadow of Mount Rainier. The area is in close proximity of Seattle and the Puget Sound and includes easy access to a wide range of outdoor recreation activities. This project specifically addresses health and strives to promote positive health behaviors through physical activity, social emotional learning, nutrition and healthy cooking. The AmeriCorps member in this position will implement programs, recruit and train volunteers, collect data on program effectiveness and conduct community outreach to increase engagement. This project uses exciting, engaging programs to promote positive behavior change and improve health outcomes for youth. The AmeriCorps member has substantial opportunities to be creative and practice program development. This position is housed in the Community Center and though it is an individual placement, the AmeriCorps member serves closely with a larger team at the Teen Center and Community Center. Knowledge of mountain biking, bike maintenance, outdoor opportunities and experience working with youth of a variety of ages is desired. Training in outdoor program skills will be provided as needed. Fitness membership and access to the Community Center amenities is provided. Interviews will occur on a rolling basis as applications are received.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $1,571.62 per month
