Job Description

Head Start Program

Position: Part-Time Head Start Classroom Aide/Bus Monitor

Reports to: Teacher/Education Manager

Salary Range: $12.45

Labor Status: None

Normal Hours: 24-29 hours weekly between 7:30 AM and 5:00 PM as assigned. May have opportunity for evening hours.

Supervision Received: May work alone or with others

Supervision Exercised: None

Qualifications:
➢ High School graduate or G.E.D.
➢ Experience with children in a preschool setting preferred.
➢ Successful completion of ODJFS physical including proof of Diphtheria/Tetanus/Pertussis (Tdap) and Mea- sles/Mumps/Rubella (MMR) vaccinations.
➢ Proof of COVID vaccination.
➢ Must demonstrate ability to lift 40 pounds and carry a minimum of 10 feet.
➢ Ability to physically interact with children by but not limited to playing on the floor, climbing stairs, bending and stooping to the child’s eye level.
➢ Successful completion of Ohio and Federal BCI Criminal Record Check.
➢ Satisfactory completion of pre-employment drug testing.

➢ Reads, writes and interprets written and verbal instructions.
➢ Complies with CAO's policy for a drug free workplace.
➢ Attends training as required.
➢ Maintains confidentiality.
➢ Demonstrates knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards, Ohio Early Learning Content Standards, de- velopmentally appropriate practice, child growth and development.
➢ Informs immediate supervisor of all problems (child, parent, staff, etc.) and of unusual or extraordinary matters of significance so that prompt corrective action can be taken when appropriate.
➢ Must adhere to Agency Policy on dress code.
➢ Must be team oriented.
➢ Able to complete paperwork accurately and in a timely manner.
➢ Interacts appropriately with families and professionals.
➢ Must have valid Ohio Driver’s License, reliable transportation and proof of insurance.
➢ Evidence of automobile insurance within 30 days of hire and yearly thereafter.
➢ Must be willing to occasionally travel out of town and stay overnight for training.
➢ Must be willing to work some flex hours, as required to implement work plan.

Job Specific Expectations:
➢ Assist teacher in classroom operation.
➢ Ride assigned bus route and assist with child restraint system, boarding and exiting the bus.
➢ Must be knowledgeable regarding responses to emergencies and emergency procedures, use of special equipment, child pick-up and release procedures, and pre- and post-trip vehicle checks.
➢ Obtain CDL when offered opportunity and drive route in absence of regular driver.
➢ Must submit to pre-employment, random, post-accident and reasonable suspicion drug/alcohol testing is as- signed to drive.
➢ Be willing to attend classes and obtain CDA after one year.
➢ Assist teacher in implementing lesson plans developed by teacher and aides aligned to the Ohio Early Learn- ing Content Standards and Head Start Program Standards.
➢ Have working knowledge of ODJFS Day Care Regulations and ensure compliance with regulations.
➢ Assist with maintenance of children’s records.
➢ Assist with individual children.

Occasional Functions:
➢ Participates on work-related committees.
➢ Makes court appearance on behalf of CAO.
➢ Pick up supplies when necessary.
➢ Other related duties as assigned.
