Duties: The clinical laboratory scientist performs routine and complex laboratory procedures in a prompt, accurate and reliable manner according to established procedures and quality control guidelines.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Performs required procedures related to patient testing according to standard protocols. Between PCRC & Research Center, this CLS must be able to follow the test guidelines and research protocol to perform required testing for various Clinical Trials. This may take 15 to 20% of the time when these testing’s are performed in the Department of Pathology and Clinical Laboratory Medicine of our hospital

2. Performs, interprets and troubleshoot (as required) all required quality control and instrument checks / maintenance procedures (daily, weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly, semiannually – as required) according to standard protocols and maintains required records. Must be able to work (taking instructions on phone) with technical service department of the assigned instruments to troubleshoot the problem of the instrument’s performance.

3. Evaluates the validity of results obtained and reports all test results in computer.

4. Answers telephone and provides information in accordance with laboratory policy.

5. Receives blood specimens sent to laboratory or draws blood from patients by venipuncture, according to standard protocol.

6. Prepares solutions, reagents and stains according to standard formulas and procedures.

7. Understands, supports, promotes and adheres to the customer service philosophy and standards

8. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, inservice meetings and workshops.

9. Complies with established hospital & departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.

10. Performs other duties as assigned.

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:

1. May serve as acting supervisor in absence of regular supervisor.

2. Assists in training and orientation of new personnel assigned.

3. Must be able to work well with all the coworkers in an open lab setting.

Highly desired Experience with Vitros 5600 Analyzer

Required Flexible to work on weekends and per the Clinical Laboratory Needs

Required Good interpersonal relation skills and high standards of customer service - Required

Meditech Experience - Highly desired

Education: ASCP certification - Highly desired

Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or related field - Required

CA Clinical Laboratory Scientist license - Required
