Agency Information: Osawatomie State Hospital (OSH) is licensed by the State of Kansas to provide care and treatment for adults diagnosed with psychiatric disorders regardless of ability to pay. OSH serves individuals from 36 counties in Kansas in collaboration with 12 Community Mental Health Centers (CMHCs). The centers refer individuals for admission to the hospital through a collaborative screening process. There are currently two hospitals on the Osawatomie campus in Miami county: Osawatomie State Hospital and Adair Acute Care.

Position Summary & Responsibilities

Position Summary: The Osawatomie State Hospital is currently seeking a Clinical Therapist. This position is an integral and critical part of the overall care and treatment for the patients of the hospital. The incumbent provides therapeutic groups, individual therapy, treatment planning and assessments for the patients admitted to the hospital.

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

As the Clinical Therapist, you will provide group and individual psychotherapy to reduce symptoms/distress, educate the patient, and facilitate placement in the community. Treatment plans are prepared in conjunction with the input of the patient, other team members and are based on the presenting clinical symptoms and are updated as needed throughout the patient’s hospitalization. Risk assessments are completed within assigned time frames as indicated by patients presenting problems and course of hospitalization.

Within the scope of licensure and with supervision as appropriate, complete formal evaluations using accepted professional standards and according to hospital timelines. Findings are communicated in a timely manner through staff conferences, direct feedback to patients, court testimony (when required), and written reports.

Coordinate patient treatment plans with the IDT and the other members of Psychological and Therapy Services (PTS). When assigned as team leader, provide leadership to the IDT and shared leadership of the PTS staff assigned to the treatment team. When assigned, facilitate meetings with the PTS and attend program management meetings as the PTS liaison. Will also work with the IDT (Interdisciplinary Team) to educate patients regarding psychiatric disorders, treatment, diet & fitness and self-care.

Will maintain licensure in clinical field as required by the State of Kansas. Training obtained during scheduled work time is directly related to adult inpatient psychiatry, patient safety, and promoting positive treatment outcomes. Other duties as assigned. Completes special projects and performs other duties as assigned including but not limited to ensuring the agency is adequately staffed during and immediately following natural and/or manmade disasters, infectious disease outbreaks, and/or acts of terrorism. Assists other employees in the work unit in accomplishing assignments as necessary.


Qualifications

  • Education: Masters as a Social Worker, Psychologist, Psychotherapist
  • Licensing & Certification: At the time of appointment, candidates for this position must possess a license or temporary license to practice as a Psychologist, Social Worker, or Psychotherapist in the State of Kansas with a masters degree.

  • Minimum Qualifications: Licensed to practice in the State of Kansas with Masters

  • Preferred Qualifications: Two years providing therapy to individuals in an inpatient setting.

  • Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements: Must complete and pass background and drug screen.
