Summary
Under direct supervision, is responsible for receiving, storing, maintaining inmates' clothing; provides clothing and bedding; retrieves and prepares clothing for release or transfer; restocks clothing and bedding; investigates missing clothing; prepares statistical report; answers questions; notifies family members; and performs related duties as required.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Receives, records and stores inmates' personal clothing and property and issues receipt to inmate
- Provides inmate with detention clothing and bedding
- Retrieves and prepares inmates' personal clothing and property for inmates release, transfer or court appearance
- Restocks clothing and bedding for issue to inmates
- Investigates missing or damaged inmate property and prepares missing property report if required
- Prepares monthly statistical report pertaining to the activity in the Clothing room
- Answers questions or complaints regarding the availability of clothing or the status of missing clothing items
- Notifies transferred inmates' family members by form letter of inmates' personal clothing available for release
- Performs other duties as required
Minimum Qualifications
- High School or General Education Development (GED) certificate, and two (2) years experience in the areas of supply, purchasing or inventory control; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Knowledge of basic inventory procedures
- Skill in operating basic office equipment
- Ability to understand and follow instructions; ability to maintain records, documents and compile and organize reports; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, Texas Department of Criminal Justice, County employees and the general public
- Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation from the Bexar County Sheriff's Office
- Must secure and maintain a pre-employment drug screen and pre-employment physical
- May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek; weekends; shift work and holidays
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
- Physical requirements include lifting/carrying of 10-15 lbs. frequently, and 25-60 lbs. occasionally; visual acuity, speech and hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate basic office equipment. Subject to handling, walking, sitting, standing, bending, reaching, pushing, twisting and climbing to perform the essential functions
- Working conditions are primarily in a jail environment
