Job description
The Construction Materials Testing Laboratory Manager will oversee and manage the soils and concrete laboratory, be a technical resource to the technicians. Learn, assist, and takeover select roles and jobs from both the Geotechnical and CMT department directors. Be involved in the growth of Legacy while learning more and more about the industry, Legacy, and how we operate.

SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE – This Role:
- Run and manage the concrete and soils lab (from highest to low priority):
- Ensure all lab work is completed within test specific completion goals and perform/oversee all work – also that received date is entered accurately for all samples
- LBR, Proctor, gradation (coarse and fine), geo fines/moisture content, Atterberg limits, permeability tests, etc.
- Maintain CMEC lab accreditation, soils, concrete, and asphalt
- Meet specific requests of engineers and other managers to meet clients’ needs
- Train and schedule full and part time lab technicians and coordinate with Field Manager for additional help from field technicians
- Maintain proper personnel certifications for current and future work needs
- Responsible for all field and soils & concrete equipment inventory/certification/calibration
- Ensure proper notice is given for all equipment (1 week + calibration time)
- Maintain general lab cleanliness/care
- Update/add equipment to increase efficiency
- Provide technical and project support, assistance, and teaching to field and laboratory technicians
- Maintain a trust/positive relationship with the techs that you can help them be successful in providing appropriately timely results
- Build understanding of why and when certain tests are performed
- Assistance in how to track their equipment calibrations, and how to perform basic checks
- Learn and assist Geotechnical Director and CMT Director in collecting, compiling and presenting test data, preparing reports, completing jobs, performing work, obtaining work, and other miscellaneous jobs.
- Begin to takeover and lead jobs from start to finish.
- Gain a working knowledge and experience in all areas of Legacy.
- Provide technical and project support, assistance, and teaching to field and laboratory technicians.
- Be involved in learning how to market Legacy – work with department directors and sales director to assist in Legacy growth goals.
- Be involved in at least one technical association.
- Track all time spent on things related to clients (jobs, marketing, etc.) so that A/R can reach to ensure time is billed correctly.
- Ensure Geotech related time also recorded in the front of the folder
- Track % of hours spent on billable items
Additional Skills:
- 5+ years of laboratory testing and supervisory experience
- Experience testing and reporting of FDOT and USACE samples considered an asset
- Experienced with civil construction practices and relevant testing standards and FDOT / USACE Methods
- Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite including Word and Excel
- Familiar with Quality Management Systems
- Experienced with Radiation Safety and can be the Radiation Safety Officer.
- Strong written, verbal communication and people management skills
- Experience in writing technical reports, business development and client relations
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving experience
- Willing to work overtime, if required

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
