Job description: Tube Laser Operator/Warehouse Helper

EMJ Metals is a leading distributor/processor of bar, plate and tubular products. We purchase large quantities from primary producers, including a broad mix of carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel and aluminum. With one of the largest inventories and state of the art processing capabilities in our industry, we are able to fully support the demands of our vast customer base and to deliver material and finished parts on time. Due to our growth, we are seeking an individual that can operate our tube laser as well as help with general warehouse duties.

The Tube Laser Operator shall be able to:

  • Properly select material – requires competent use of tape measures and calipers as well as understanding of EMJ color codes.
  • Load raw material - requires the use of forklift, Side loader or overhead crane.
  • Import part files from remote drive – requires basic understanding of Windows type applications.
  • Set machine to proper parameters, changing lenses, nozzles, filters etc. – requires use and understanding of basic hand tools such as wrenches, hex keys, screwdrivers.
  • Adjusting tech tables as needed – requires understanding of laser’s focus, gases pressure, power settings, etc.
  • After part is produced, the operator must compare the part to the print – requires the ability to read and understand drawings, use calipers, height gauges, pin gauges, micrometers, tape measures.
  • After parts are produced the operator will be required to properly package the finished goods – requires the ability to read packaging instructions. Use forklift, overhead crane or manually to transfer material to the required packaging (box, skid, crate).
  • Transport finished goods to the staging area – requires use of forklift, overhead crane or side loader.

Attributes for a good candidate are:

  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to convert fractions to decimals and imperial measurements to metric.
  • Ability to read and understand drawings/blueprints.
  • Good mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to read and write in English.
