Job description

We are currently seeking a Collections & Research Specialist for our Fort Wayne, IN office. Please note that this is 100% remote position unless you are local to Fort Wayne.

The duties and responsibilities of the position break down as follows:

30%
Understanding of major components of our business activities including:

  • Basic structure of pricing models.
  • Understanding of customer quote/estimate process.
  • Understanding of all situations that cause variances between quoted amount, and amount invoiced to our customers.
  • Understanding of processes to communicate errors in concise manner to parties responsible for correcting invoices and or commissions.
  • Understanding of systems used to ensure that our invoices and supporting documents are delivered to the party responsible for coordinating payment to us.

  • Ability to read key documents (abstract) generated by billing and commissioning system that provide financial transactions related to a particular shipper’s move.

  • Understanding of key elements (receipt of quantity of items billed, billed at agreed rates, and duly authorized) of control environment surrounding disbursement audit cycle in typical company.
  • Ability to determine which step(s) each customer contact is performing.

  • Ability to research and resolve common billing questions without seeking assistance from billing department.

Collection Functions:

  • Responsible for collection of portfolio of trade receivables
  • Ability to use accounts receivable systems to collect open receivables from customers
  • Ability to use systems that store invoices and supporting documents, and explain core business services offerings presented on them to customers.
  • Ability to use banking software to confirm receipt of payment
  • Ability to understand how to escalate problems that cannot be resolved within acceptable timeframe with existing participants an supporting materials.

Qualifications and Preferred Skills
- 4-6 years of experience in collections or related area
- must demonstrate effective critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and ability to independently research complex issues
- detail oriented
- excellent customer service skills
- strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate complex issues effectively and concisely
- excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize work effectively
- must be an independent worker and possess the ability to work in a dynamic, fast paced environment
- intermediate to advanced knowledge of excel required

Education and Certification Requirements
- Requires a high school diploma
- Associates or college degree preferred
