Term of Service: 10 months (Aug - May); Scheduled breaks in service__winter/spring district breaks
Average Weekly Service Hours: 30 (based on 40 service weeks between August 8 and May 31)


Program Overview

The SC Commission on Higher Education’s College & Career Opportunity Program goal is to increase the
postsecondary education enrollment rate in targeted high schools across South Carolina. Our program focuses
on assisting an identified cohort of students through the college access process using the College Board
Opportunity Scholarships framework. Our coaches mentor students from the identification of colleges and
career certification programs the students may be interested in pursuing through the financial aid application
process and celebrate the students’ acceptance. Our program participates in South Carolina Can Go
(SCCANGO) college access events.


AmeriCorps Member Position Overview

The College and Career Opportunity Coach (CCOC) will mentor 11th and 12th grade students identified by the
school leadership team as needing additional assistance planning for their continued education or career
training beyond high school. The CCOC will help each student determine which college or program best fits
their needs and work with the student through all phases of entering postsecondary education or training
including increasing their standardized test score to qualify for state scholarships, completing program
applications, gaining access to grant and scholarship funding to pay for postsecondary education, and
developing skills that will ensure continued success once enrolled in a postsecondary institution.


Minimum Qualifications

? Be at least 21 years of age or older
? Have, or be working towards, a college degree
? Be a citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States
? Satisfy the National Service Criminal History Check eligibility criteria pursuant to 45 CFR 2540.202.

Essential Functions

? Have a strong commitment to community service.
? Adhere to all codes of conduct and/or related policies and procedures of AmeriCorps, the high school
service site, and host district.
? Maintain a professional manner and appearance.
? Wear appropriate AmeriCorps gear while accruing service hours.
? Adhere to responsible work habits such as reporting for service on time, staying on task, and being
friendly and helpful on site and in the community.
? Communicate effectively with students and their families, program staff, fellow members, community
partners, and AmeriCorps staff.
? Serve a targeted number of high school students to navigate the college access process.
? Identify and work with local assets in youth development organizations, afterschool programs, and faith-
based organizations serving at-risk and rural students and families to support the needs of targeted
students, meet program goals, and support AmeriCorps.
? Hold and participate in public events at the service site and in the local community to educate people
about the AmeriCorps Program and services offered.
? Participate in AmeriCorps 101/Program orientation.
? Participate in the host district’s on-boarding orientation and required trainings.
? Participate in the host school’s faculty meetings and required trainings.
? Participate in College Board Opportunity Scholarships (CBOS) trainings.
? Participate in Federal Student Aid (FSA) trainings.
? Participate in Life After AmeriCorps trainings.
? Participate in meetings, trainings, and phone calls with the SC Service Commission and CHE
AmeriCorps Program Director. This includes mid-term and end-of-term performance evaluations, which
are intended to be a mutual exchange of information that informs the Program's service delivery and
helps the Member successfully complete the term of service.

? Submit training completer certificates or other evidence of participation.

? Submit weekly timesheets with accurate service hours and detailed activity descriptions to the Site
Supervisor and Program Director.
? Update and maintain CBOS data collection tools every service day.
? Securely submit updated CBOS data collection tools at the Program Director’s request through the
SCFileDrop system (i.e., bi-monthly).
? Submit applicable reports, data, and forms to the SC Service Commission and CHE AmeriCorps
Program Director. This includes narrative reports and surveys.
? Attend applicable national trainings and conferences.
? Participation in September 11th Day of Remembrance and/or Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service.
Events may occur on the weekend or during holidays and include activities outside of the scope of
typical day-to-day functions.


Additional Responsibilities

Although not essential position functions, the College & Career Opportunity Coach may be responsible for the
following as needed:
? Participate in outside service activities approved by the Program Director.
? Participate in AmeriCorps recruitment fairs.
? Assist school departments outside the host site guidance suite in major projects as it relates directly to
our AmeriCorps program goals.

? Physical exertion: Usual effort/lifting is sedentary (up to 10 pounds); on occasion light (up to 20 pounds)
or medium (up to 50 pounds) effort/lifting may be needed; heavy (over 50 pounds) effort/lifting is not
expected.
? Visual Acuity: Member must have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and
analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and/or expansive reading.
? Service Conditions: Member is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions.


Benefits

? The weekly living allowance for this position is $360 distributed on the host district’s usual payroll cycle
and may not exceed a total of $14,400.00 for the term of service.

? This position is eligible for an Education Award up to $4441.50.
