The Colorado Construction Services Director of Operations will assist the Colorado Managing Principal in project, field staff, and client management, serving as a client manager and project manager for current and future assignments and assist with pursuits with key clients in Colorado. Primary duties will include planning, directing, and monitoring all aspects of large multi-discipline to small-sized construction projects with varying degrees of technical complexity. In this role, we'll count on you to:

  • Take responsibility for technical services, quality, and production methods and standards, all within established goals and objectives of the business group
  • Assist in development, implementation and maintain effective Colorado area transportation business group programs
  • Take responsibility for Colorado area coordination, monitoring, and improvement of technical competencies of field staff to meet client needs and market drivers
  • Manage delivery of project construction services to meet client expectations
  • Participate in business strategic planning, budgeting, and plan implementation

Primary responsibilities of the position will focus on the operations, execution, and delivery of projects within the Colorado market. Key responsibilities consist of helping to drive client management, monitoring and making adjustments regarding market sector profit and loss, ensuring project delivery, and supporting the QA/QC program.

  • Coordinate project staffing and workload management of the area field services group.
  • Manage and supervise Front Range based staff, including annual performance discussions, and coordinate internal staff training and development.
  • Help identify and provide opportunities for staff growth and development and assist with the identification and recruitment of prospective future market sector employees.
  • Assist in the management of HDR’s vehicle fleet
  • Lead scope development and execution in conjunction with appropriate technical professionals
  • Promote Quality Assurance/Quality Control; work with area leadership to assist the local programs with key technical expertise to support marketing and project activities.
  • Manage and participate in project assignment to the extent required including internal audits of HDR processes and procedures
  • Develop and maintain relationships with senior leadership in key Colorado client organizations and with industry counterparts in other consulting organizations

Supplemental responsibilities of the position will involve Business Development aspects, assisting in assessing the Colorado marketplace and participating in decisions for the best business approach to win and secure contracts. This would involve working with Colorado Area leadership on development and delivery of area and market sector initiatives and growth of the Construction Management program. Expectations would also include working with the client development leaders to drive client development and pursuit processes based on proven capture techniques.


Qualifications


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management required
  • 20+ years related experience in heavy transportation and civil construction projects
  • Experience and familiarity with Colorado Department of Transportation and Colorado Front Range municipal and county project construction management and inspection requirements and business practices
  • Proven business operations experience and strong interpersonal and consensus building skills.
  • Proven hands-on experience in all aspects of construction and construction management.
  • Existing network and relationships within Colorado state and municipal clients
  • Excellent written, verbal communication, and organizational silks.
  • Experienced in supervising direct reports and development and management of diverse teams.
  • Experience with MS Office, particularly Word, Excel, Outlook and MS Project, Other scheduling software
  • Ability to regularly travel along the Front Range and periodic travel to various destinations throughout western Colorado.

The expected compensation range for this position is $116,116.00 - $165,880.00 annually depending upon skills, experience, education and geographical location. (Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions. Temporary and part-time roles eligible for limited benefits.)
