Job description
The Community Crisis Navigator is responsible for administering the Emergency Rental Assistance program to Hennepin County residents.
Key Responsibilities
  • Conducts screenings to determine eligibility for the program, completes assessments, intakes and enrollment.
  • Responds to crisis to prevent disruption in housing or eviction.
  • Works collaboratively with mental health workers and other support professionals.
  • Identifies and assists with access to available resources and public benefits to improve participant financial wellbeing.
  • Manages direct assistance used for financial support, utility, rent, and security deposit payment.
  • Mediates with landlords to develop a workable plan for participants to secure housing and/ or prevent eviction.
  • Refers Emergency Rental Assistance applicants to in-house HUD Housing Counselor who specializes in rental and financial wellness counseling and education.
  • Maintains accurate records for all participants, documenting eligibility, services and program status and ensures accurate and complete records to track and report outcomes.
  • Completes data entry in client management systems.
  • Collaborates with staff members and assists with other program services.
  • Serves as agency representative to community organizations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a Human Services or related field with 3 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience to successfully perform the duties of the job.
  • Experience with detailed record-keeping
  • Excellent reading and writing
  • Professional and/ or lived experience working with diverse communities and/ or households defined as low income.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills, including collaborating with a team, working across program areas, disseminating information effectively and conflict resolution.
  • Proficient at using MS Office programs including Word, Excel and Power Point, and with data management software programs or databases.
  • Experience assessing complex situations and making decisions independently of supervision.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation on a daily basis.
  • Open and flexible schedule, including occasion nights and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with trauma informed and strengths-based case management.
  • Experience in crisis intervention and problem solving with the ability to deescalate situations.
  • Demonstrated ability working with landlords, including mediation and advocacy to prevent loss of housing.
  • Knowledge or understanding of tenant's rights and responsibilities.
