Requirements
NationSwell is seeking a Community Director to drive engagement and impact with our dynamic national community, with a specific focus on our membership in the Eastern U.S. You will create, contribute to, and execute strategies that deepen engagement amongst our members and strengthen their connection to NationSwell. You will support community members in their purpose-led work, foster collaborations, and form partnerships that advance the collective impact of the NationSwell Council. You will have creative freedom in working with members, and driving impact-based projects, helping shape events, and contributing to NationSwell’s content.
What will you do?

  • Manage a portfolio of members, build strong relationships, maintain regular contact, proactively and strategically collaborate to advance their work, foster community, and make connections to generate impact on social and environmental issues in the US.
  • Be a strategic thought-partner on the vision and future direction for the Council, with a specific emphasis on our Washington, D.C. - Baltimore, Philadelphia, NYC and Boston communities.
  • Lead in hosting East Coast events, facilitating round-table conversations, dinners, and other intimate gatherings in-person and virtually (with the utmost regard for your safety as we work through the pandemic).
  • May have in-depth knowledge about and/or a deep passion for - core issue areas including: bridging divides, racial equity, health equity, economic development, the health of our global environment, government, education, national service - and more.
  • Embody a community culture in which members from different races, geographies, industries, and backgrounds feel welcomed and valued.
  • Collaborate closely with other NationSwell-run programs (our Institutional Membership program and our Studio team) to continually improve our cross-platform offerings.
  • Track member engagement and impact, analyze and apply data to adjust your approach, embrace innovation in data collection and analyses to improve processes + inform future strategy.
  • Stay up to date on social and environmental issues in the US and apply your learnings to impact projects, events, written content, and your work with members.
  • Work with the team on cutting-edge event concepts and formats that foster inspiration, connection, and practical learnings.

Successful candidates will excel at building community and forging strong relationships with accomplished leaders from diverse industries and backgrounds. You are a natural problem solver and connector, a relationships-first kind of person, team-oriented, data-driven, and committed to continuous improvement and learning. You should have expert interpersonal communication skills, be comfortable moderating discussions, both in-person and online, and have experience with public speaking generally. You are ardently dedicated to addressing social and environmental issues in the US.
Desired Qualifications

  • Background in community management or managing memberships
  • Well versed on a broad range of social and environmental issues that are facing the United States, as well as some of the key work that is driving impact in these issue areas. (An expert generalist)
  • Experience working with diverse communities and facilitating conversations amongst individuals with a diverse range of lived experiences, racial, ethnic, geographic, political and ideological backgrounds.
  • Proven ability to think strategically and draw connections between people and opportunities
  • Experience with event moderation and/or public speaking
  • Experience collecting and analyzing data to inform strategic decision making
  • A creative problem solver with a bias towards innovation
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects at a time while paying attention to detail, with the utmost respect for relationship capital
  • Enjoys crafting compelling oral and written communications and creating presentations
  • A deep commitment to impact and driving critical change in the United States and beyond

The annual starting salary range for this position is $95,000 - $105,000.
