What is a Community Health Educator?

CARE offers a number of prevention programs which provide information and strategies to help the community manage health and safety. We are looking for a passionate individual to deliver substance abuse prevention programming to local schools and community organizations in Macomb County. If teaching and presenting is your passion, this is the position for you!

What are the core job responsibilities as a Community Health Educator at CARE?

• Market and facilitate substance use presentations/classes to groups, schools, community and faith-based organizations located in communities served by CARE of SEM.
• Coordinate and/or assist with agency summer camp (s).
• Demonstrates full comprehension of activity plan and meets quality programmatic standards while reporting data and outcomes as required.
• Disseminate substance use information at health and public fairs, school open houses and other community events as requested.
• Establish and maintain liaison relationships with appropriate agencies regarding substance use prevention.
• Ability to adjust hours of work based on the community needs, including some evening and weekends.
• Knowledgeable of national and local substance use and prevention statistics and demonstrates the ability to apply current trends to service delivery.

What do we need from you?

• High school diploma or equivalent education.
  • Preferred: A Bachelor's degree in social work, sociology, psychology, family ecology, consumer/community services, family studies, family and/or child development, guidance/school counseling, counseling psychology, education, public health, human services, or criminal justice.
• Possess a valid motor vehicle operator license.
• Completion background check and drug screening.
• Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
• Must possess knowledge and understanding of Recovery Oriented System of Care and Trauma Informed Services.
• Must be able to enter and retrieve data using computer systems, systems applications, and other office equipment.
• Ability to lift and transport materials/supplies up to 12 lbs. to health fairs, presentations and/or other public forums.
• Ability to maintain a flexible schedule to meet community needs.
