Works directly with the Refinery Leadership Team and acts as liaison with the HR department and corporate communications staff to advise on and manage a communications plan to reach, inform, influence, recognize and motivate the Refinery’s employees, as well as the external publics. The Refinery’s communications plan includes, but not limited to: Internal Communications, Media Relations, and Community. Performs advanced diversified and confidential administrative duties, in support of major organization function, requiring broad and comprehensive experience, skill and knowledge of organization policies and practices.
- Advises and manages a communications plan to reach the Refinery’s internal and external publics.
- Assists and advises the Director of Human Resources with volunteer and community information.
- Manages the production of a monthly employee newsletter.
- Obtains membership in and encourages Refinery participation in the Chamber of Commerce and other industry associations.
- Pursues opportunities to participate in or provide sponsorship for outreach efforts that will broaden the Refinery’s presence in the community.
- Establishes contact with influential individuals, community and local government for informational meetings/tours, volunteer opportunities, and or the purpose of determining the public’s knowledge of, feelings about, and needs from the Refinery.
- Enhances the Company’s image by participating in strategic community-based programs and events (i.e. involvement in local not-for-profit boards).
- Serves as point of contact between external audiences and company.
- Develops, coordinates, and leads all community, volunteer and employee activities.
- Serves as Diversity Ambassador to identify opportunities to build DEI awareness and promote inclusivity in our workplace and community.
- Provides primary support to Valero Volunteer Council and United Way Committee.
- Develops partnership with local schools, groups, foundations and associations. Works to create and/or sponsor programs with tangible and measurable benefits to the community.
- Advises on the distribution of Charitable Contributions to local non-profit organizations.
- Schedules and maintains calendar of appointments, meetings, and coordinates related arrangements, as needed.
- Coordinates administrative duties including filing, processing of invoices and requisitions, monitoring and reconciling controllable expenses, annual budgets for this expense center and all rollup expense centers, and handles advanced administrative functions.
This position is salaried exempt status, which means you are not eligible for overtime pay.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 3 years of experience in community relations, media relations or public relations required.
- Bachelor’s or higher level degree - in Public Relations, Communications, or Marketing preferred.
Position level and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
