Community Research Assistant
Job Summary
The Research Assistant will work with the Executive Director, Project Manager, consultants, and research cohort to design, implement, and communicate community participatory research for Comite Civico del Valle. Individuals in this position will work towards the goal of providing data, answering questions, and developing support for the Policy Advocacy team in the ongoing efforts of equitable and safe development of Lithium Valley in Imperial County.
The Salton Sea restoration, grant opportunities for community research, health effect analyses, and the technical know-how to complete the required local environmental impact reports were all made possible thanks to Comite Civico’s assistance in the creation of legislative language. A major investment in academic, engineering, scientific, legal, policy and government relations know-how will be necessary if California is to have the chance to establish a new global policy standard for lithium recovery procedures. The Research Assistant position will be supporting these efforts through collaboration with academic research partners, community research groups, and others within the Comite Civico team.
Individuals should be familiar with climate change issues and local environmental health issues around the Imperial and Eastern Coachella Valleys; including issues that affect water quality, air quality, Lithium Valley, the Salton Sea, and the Imperial-Mexicali border region.
Responsibilities
- Conduct literature reviews
- Collect and analyze data
- Prepare materials for submission to granting agencies and foundations
- Prepare interview questions
- Recruit and/or interview subjects
- Maintain accurate records of interviews, safeguarding the confidentiality of subjects, as necessary
- Summarize interviews
- Provide ready access to all experimental data for the researcher and/or supervisor
- Request or acquire equipment or supplies necessary for the project
- Prepare, maintain, and update website materials
- Attend project meetings
- Attend area seminars and other meetings as necessary
- Summarize project results
- Prepare progress reports for the PI
- Prepare other articles, reports, and presentations
- Prepare briefs for policy recommendations & collaborate with the advocacy team
Other tasks may be required as needed to achieve the organization’s goals in community research and advocacy.
Preferred Qualifications
Enthusiasm for expanding public understanding of local issues and how they can engage in solution planning.
Experience with community research.
Location
Our office is in Brawley, CA.
This position would preferably be based in and work out of the Imperial Valley area, hybrid is an option for the right candidate.
Occasional travel throughout the State may be required.

Salary range
$41,600 – $52,000 for full-time employment, 40 hrs/week.
