Controller job description

We are seeking a results-driven corporate controller to oversee our financial operations. You will be performing financial planning, optimizing financial processes, and preparing budgets and reports. To ensure success as a corporate controller, you should demonstrate in-depth knowledge of financial management principles and extensive experience in a similar role. A first-class corporate controller will be someone whose expertise translates into optimized financial operations and increased profitability.

Controller Job Responsibilities

• Planning, directing, and coordinating all accounting operational functions
• Managing the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results
• Coordinating and preparing internal and external financial statements
• Coordinating activities of external auditors
• Providing management with information vital to the decision-making process
• Managing the budget process
• Managing a robust cash forecast and management process
• Assessing current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement, and implementing new processes
• Evaluating accounting and internal control systems
• Evaluating the effectiveness of accounting software and supporting database, as needed
• Developing and monitoring business performance metrics
• Overseeing regulatory reporting, frequently including tax planning and compliance
• Hiring, training, and retaining skilled accounting staff

Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required
• At least seven years of relevant experience
• MBA and/or CPA preferred
• Construction and real estate industry experience highly desired
• Construction management software experience (CMiC) a definite plus
• Solid communication, technology, analytical and management skills
