GENERAL FUNCTIONS:

The Cook Child Care is responsible for all duties related to the purchasing, preparation, serving, and clean-up of lunch and snacks. The Cook will maintain a clean and healthy working environment in accordance with the licensing regulations of the State of Wisconsin.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Plan, organize, prepare, and cook healthy lunches and snacks that meet USDA Meal Program requirements.
• Ensure work area is maintained in a safe and sanitary manner; ensure the cleaning of kitchen equipment and utensils on a routine and regular basis.
• Plan, create, and distribute menus according to USDA Meal Program and state licensing requirements.
• Maintain inventory and shop for food and supplies.
• Retain a variety of records and reports as required by the state and the Child Care Director.
• Develop positive rapport with staff, children, and families.
• Follow all relevant regulations from the Department of Children and Families or other regulatory agencies as directed by supervisor.
• Uphold the core values of the YMCA when working with people within the YMCA facilities and community.
• Attend all staff meetings and trainings as required.
• May occasionally provide assistance and supervision of children in the classroom.
• Perform other duties as necessary and assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Individuals in this job must be at least 18 years old, hold a valid drivers license and have reliable transportation. Must wear clean clothing and effective hair restraints, and participate in state required orientation and annual training in kitchen sanitation, food handling, and nutrition. Experience working in a day care center is preferred. This role requires successful completion of CPR, First Aid, AED, and Abusive Head Trauma training within 6 months of hire.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must be able to stand for long periods of time, bend, reach, climb step ladders, grocery shop, deliver, and store all supplies in cabinets and pantry. Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds and safely operate all necessary kitchen equipment and cleaning supplies.
