We have an opening for a full-time Cook at our Independent Living Facility in Bangor, ME!

The Cook is responsible for all aspects of food service operation in the commercial grade kitchen that includes, but it not limited to, management and oversight of kitchen activities, grocery shopping, food handling, and preparation, sanitation, and cleaning.

Employees are provided with paid meal breaks in addition to a home-cooked meal for those scheduled to work during the lunchtime and dinnertime meal periods.

Essential Duties and responsibilities:

  • Provide meals for the program residents, preparing three meals per day.
  • Keep serving schedules and ensure that all food items are served per menu specifications, prepare meals for special diets as needed or requested.
  • Ensure that appropriate quantities of food are prepared and served in accordance with daily dietary and nutritional needs, maintain food production to ensure the safety and quality of food per guidelines and requirements.
  • Maintain a sanitary environment during and after food preparation in accordance with the applicable codes and regulations.
  • Ensure that delivered food items are inventoried, stored in a safe and hazardous free environment. This would include unpacking of items and breaking down boxes and maintaining an accurate inventory of all food and supplies.
  • Report all equipment maintenance needs to the Director of Senior Services.
  • Follow all applicable rules, regulations, and policies,
  • Work harmoniously with others.
  • Maintain reporting logs for temperatures, etc.
  • Assist with serving as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Physical ability to perform the work required; must be able to lift and carry 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to carry stock up and down stairs.
  • Proven job reliability, diligence, attention to detail.
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with residents and staff.
  • Prior experience working with, or knowledge of aging population/issues is desirable.
  • Serve Safe Certification preferred.
