Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay: $15.00 (Based on years of related work experience)
This temporary position will be assigned to the Department of Public Safety - National Guard.
This position will assist with maintaining high standards of control for quality food production and service for approximately 150 cadets. Employee will provide nutritionally adequate meals meeting the Federal Child Nutrition Program meal patterns and follow operational procedures for efficient, effective food production and services. Responsibilities will include assisting with food and supply requisitions needs, check cost and quality of item received and insure proper storage. Follow Tarheel ChalleNGe Academy procedures for inventorying food, supplies and equipment. An environment conducive to protecting the health and well-being of the facility's cadets through high levels of food safety and sanitation standards must be maintained through following Federal and State sanitation procedures. This position will be responsible for assisting the supervisor with maintaining integrity and accountability of the facility Child Nutrition Program through compliance with all federal and state regulations and Department Child Nutrition policies. Assists with maintaining required records (production records), reports and inventories in compliance with federal and state regulations. Person must perform all duties and responsibilities in an ethical and professional manner and communicate positively with facility staff, cadets and food service staff. Responsible to unload and inspect incoming food supplies to include vegetables, fruits and meats to determine that they meet acceptable purchase order specifications. Performs all duties and responsibilities in an ethical and professional manner. Assumes job-related duties as assigned by the Cook II Supervisor.

Considerable knowledge of meal planning and food preparation procedures
- Experience planning effective work methods in food production and using the principles, procedures, and equipment used in the storage, care, preparation, cooking (baking), dispensing, and serving of food in large quantities to ensure quality
- Experience inspecting incoming fresh vegetables, fruits and meats to determining that they meet purchase order specifications
- General knowledge of kitchen materials and methods used in preparing meals and other foods and of the use and care of utensils and equipment.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to work quickly with hands and complete assignment in time allotted.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates
- Minimum computer skills necessary to type reports, access and respond to email as well as including attachments, and complete on-line training are required
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Education and/or experience in food preparation that is directly related to the job and consistent with accepted practices of the trade equivalent to two years of experience in a commercial and/or institutional setting.
