Summary

The Site Coordinator will be responsible for implementation of all aspects of the afterschool programs including the Developing Reader and Emergent Literacy Blocks, Healthy Choices, homework/math help and enrichment activities. The Site Coordinator will provide guidance and support for site staff and maintain good general order and conduct among the children participating in the program. The Site Coordinator will work closely with the assigned school’s Principal to address and resolve challenges to daily program operations and will be the main contact for teachers at the site for participation in student study teams as needed and recruitment of students for program enrollment based on student needs. The Site Coordinator will be the main site contact for the area Program Director and Lead Associate, Afterschool Program.


What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties)


  • Work directly with site Principal to recruit students for program participation (back to school, parent engagement activities, etc.), communicate program activities to site teachers through staff meetings, manage site use of facilities changes and address site tech issues (access to Internet, Renaissance Place, computer hardware) and collaborate with other afterschool activities on-site calendar that requires shared use of spaces. 15 %
  • Accountable for and support of site Literacy staff and initiate literacy activities (as the ratio of 1 to 20 program staff to participating children) of children participating in the afterschool literacy program including read a louds, independent self-selected reading, utilizations of Accelerated Reading tools, and fluency activities, as outlined and described in the Developing Reading and Emergent Reader Literacy Blocks of Save the Children’s Literacy Model. Provide support for Literacy staff to facilitate implementation of afterschool Literacy program and manage Accelerated Reader STAR testing procedures. 30%
  • Accountable for and support of Healthy Choices Coordinator to identify and address challenges to daily operations of Healthy Choices program components. 15%
  • Provide direct support and guidance to all site assistants to facilitate implementation of afterschool Literacy and Heather choices program components. 20%
  • Maintain children’s reading logs and perform various administrative needs of the afterschool literacy program, including monitoring children’s literacy progress, tracking and entering attendance in Monitoring & Evaluation database and running diagnostics reports. Complete forms to address discipline issues with children in the after school program and initiate meetings with parents to address behavior interventions. 10%
  • Attending training sessions as directed by Program Specialist and Program Manager. Review and approve timesheets for all site staff. Other duties as assigned by Program Specialist or Program Manager. 10%

Required Qualifications


  • Minimum 2-3 years' experience in area of expertise
  • High School or Technical/Vocational Degree
  • Basic comfort level with computers, Internet, and software such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Previous experience working with 1st through 6th grade children required.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions of supervisor.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to work professionally with children.
  • Ability to effectively communicate child concerns with parents.
  • Ability to learn/practice problem solving techniques to deal with staff conflicts.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Courses in education, psychology, and child growth and development are desirable.
  • Previous experience collaborating with and supporting staff is desirable.
