PRIMARY PURPOSE:


Evaluate, coordinate, and provide leadership for the district’s Advanced Academics programs including Dual Credit, Advanced Placement, Gifted/Talented, Pegasus programs, Pre-Advanced, and oversight of NIMSI grant components; seek and apply for further grant opportunities that will provide funding to support full or partial subsidization of AP test fees; seek and apply for other grant opportunities to elevate the district program offerings/support/training in the areas of Advanced Academics; provide and arrange for targeted Advanced Academics professional development for teachers and administrators; evaluate and acquire quotes for materials and instructional resources.


QUALIFICATIONS:


Education/Certification:

  • Master’s degree in education administration, curriculum and instruction, or teaching
  • Content subject area certification
  • G/T certification
  • Principal’s certification preferred
  • Certified T-TESS appraiser preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Thorough demonstrated knowledge of Advanced Academics
  • Ability to evaluate gifted program and effectiveness of program
  • Ability to manage budget and scheduling
  • Ability to coordinate district trainings
  • Ability to present effective and engaging staff development
  • Ability to create programming that aligns with the Texas State Plan for the Education of Gifted/Talented students
  • Ability to implement policy and procedures
  • Ability to interpret data
  • Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills

Experience:

  • Three years experience as a classroom teacher
  • Three years experience in instructional leadership roles
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate and implement advanced academic programs

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:


Coordinate and Secure Professional Development Opportunities

  • Facilitate and/or deliver GT-specific training including 6 hour yearly updates, 30 hour initial training and administrative training.
  • Collaborate with advanced academics staff in evaluating and developing programming to meet student needs.
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate advanced academic programs with teachers, instructional coaches, GT campus coordinators and principals, including projects and push-in/pull-out programs.
  • Provide support and facilitate utilization of Future Problem Solver and Academic Decathlon programs on campuses.
  • Oversee and coordinate the district Pegasus programs and lead any future expansions of the program.
  • Manage and coordinate student referral, testing and identification.
  • Work with appropriate staff to develop, maintain, and revise curriculum documents based on systematic review and analysis that are targeted for gifted students.
  • Plan the necessary time, resources, and materials to support accomplishment of advanced academic programs including Dual Credit.
  • Ensure that a district plan is created and implemented for all areas of advanced academics that aligns to the Texas State Plan for the Education of Gifted/Talented Students.
  • Participate in the district-level decision-making process to establish and review the district’s goals and objectives and major classroom instructional programs of the district.
  • Actively support the efforts of others to achieve district goals, objectives, and campus performance objectives.
  • Obtain and apply evaluative data (including student achievement data) to examine advanced academic program effectiveness.
  • Secure consultants, specialists, and other community resources with adherence to the district’s business and finance regulations.
  • Provide effective and engaging advanced academics (G/T and AP) training that incorporate the mission of the district, program evaluation outcomes, and input from teachers and others.
  • Implement policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rules, and local board policy in the areas of advanced academics.
  • Compile, maintain, and present all reports, records, and other documents required.
  • Demonstrate use of appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent/family engagement to adhere with the Texas State Plan for the Education of Gifted/Talented Students.
  • Model behaviors, which ensure the development of a district team, focused on problem solving and meeting student needs for all identified students.
  • Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible and serve as a role model for all district staff.
  • Actively seek training and information, which will enhance skills and knowledge, related to responsibilities.
  • Articulate the district’s mission, instructional philosophy, and curriculum implementation strategies to the community and solicit their support in realizing the mission.
  • Maintain records of Gifted and Talented/Advanced Placement professional development attendance (sign in sheets, Eduphoria attendance records) for the purpose of providing up-to-date reference and complying with regulatory requirements and established guidelines

  • Implement and adhere to the Texas State Plan for the Education of Gifted/Talented Students

Community Relations

  • Involve and actively seek parent and family involvement in gifted programming including yearly evaluation.

Budget

  • Ensure that selected programs/materials are cost effective and funds are managed prudently by compiling

budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs.


Communication

  • Provide for two-way communication with principals, teachers, staff, parents, and community.
  • Demonstrate skill in conflict resolution with administrators, parents, teachers, staff, and community.
