This position is located at Randolph Correctional Center in Asheboro, NC (Randolph County) which is a 226-bed minimum custody male facility.

Reporting to the Correctional Program Supervisor, this position is responsible for providing case management services to an assigned caseload of incarcerated male offenders. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Perform regular periodic classification reviews.

  • Develop needs assessments and correctional case plans.
  • Answer and follow up on offender questions and problems.
  • Assist in major dynamic programs or coordinate major/specialized programs for the rehabilitation of offenders such as: work assignments, education, or recreation.
  • Plan and coordinate transition (re-entry) prior to parole or release into the community, including provide transitional information, assist with housing, and recommendations for the classification upon offender review.
  • Supervise onsite offender activities.
  • Communicate effectively with other staff, offenders, and the general public.
  • Work under stressful conditions caused by direct contact with incarcerated offenders who can be physically violent and verbally abusive.
  • Defend oneself against attack and conduct continuous visual and audio surveillance of assigned work area.
  • Perform crisis interventions to include suicide prevention.
  • Prepare written reports which accurately reflect data reviewed by various sources.
  • Review, analyze, and evaluate various documents and behavior data gathered from interviews, written documentation, and personal observation.
  • Supervise off site programs, which may require operation of a motor vehicle in a safe and secure manner at any time of the day and in varying weather and road conditions.
  • Operate various office machines such as computer, fax, scanner, printer, copier, etc.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits with established working hours of Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm and may require working beyond normal work schedule to meet business need.

The salary grade for this position is NC07 (Salary Range: $34,084 - $59,646). State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

Randolph Correctional Center is a 226-bed minimum custody male facility located in Asheboro, NC, Randolph County. Randolph Community College works with the prison to provide adult education and preparation for GED test for offenders. Offenders may also be assigned to work in various capacities, such as a maintenance worker, librarian, recreation clerk, barber, canteen operator, or as clothes house or kitchen help at the prison.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Associate s degree in Criminal Justice, Human Services, Recreation or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of custody experience within the North Carolina Department of Public Safety; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Necessary Special Qualifications Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
