About the Rockville Correctional Facility:
The Rockville Correctional Facility is a medium security adult female facility located on approximately 52 acres, one mile northwest of Rockville, Indiana.
The Department of Correction developed the prior Air Force base into a juvenile male facility In 1970. In 1992, after moving through stages from young juveniles to older juveniles, to co-ed with adolescent males and adult female offenders on the same grounds, to adult females alone, the facility became the largest female facility in the Department of Correction.
Salary:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $42,900.00 per year but may be commensurate with education and/or experience.
About the Job:
As the Correctional Caseworker, you will be responsible for covering an assigned caseload as the initial point of contact for day-to-day offender case management issues which includes identifying and addressing needs such as providing referrals to employment, rehabilitative services, and mental health programs, and preparation for re-entry. In this position, you will direct supervision and assistance with the operations of the housing units.
A Day in the Life:
- Provide guidance to offenders on issues such as job assignments, housing changes, facility transfers, and other facility procedures.
- Act as a liaison between prospective employers, courts, community, and governmental agencies for the purpose of job development and release adjustment.
- Assess each assigned offender's risk and needs utilizing the Indiana Risk Assessment System (IRAS).
- Coordinate with all appropriate facility staff to address re-entry and release issues.
- Prepare documentation related to an offender’s temporary absences and progress reports, including case notes and program referrals over the course of an offender’s incarceration.
- Coordinate with the classification department staff to make appropriate classification recommendations for offenders.
- Conduct unit orientation for newly received offenders.
- Adhere to the re-entry policies to ensure all quality assurance job tasks are completed in accordance with policy.
What You'll Need for Success:
- Possession of a High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE)
- At least one (1) year of related work experience in social work, corrections, criminal justice, or a related field. Substitutions: Each one (1) year of related education may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience.
- Within 90 days of hire, you must obtain the Indiana Risk Assessment System Certification through the Indiana Office of Court Services.
- Must test negative on all drug screenings.
- Upon hire, the ability to successfully complete all mandatory training including the DOC Training Program, First Aid, and CPR courses.
