The Dakota County Sheriff's Office is seeking a qualified candidate for a Criminal Intelligence Analyst position. The Criminal Intelligence Analyst provides strategic, tactical, and operational intelligence support to members of the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office. Candidate must be capable of handling a wide range of intelligence and analytical related tasks. At times this position may require occasionally working shifts of nights and weekends.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates must pass ALL recruitment and pre-employment requirements listed below. Candidates who are unable to successfully pass the requirements below will be removed from further consideration.
- Educational/Experience Qualifications: candidates must meet the minimum qualifications as listed on the posting.
- Interviews: Candidates will be asked to complete a series of interviews; this may include phone interviews, oral board interviews and/or interviews with the Chief Deputy & Sheriff. If you pass this interview process, a conditional offer of employment may be extended.
- Background Check: candidates must pass a thorough background investigation conducted by the Dakota County Sheriff's Office. Applicants must meet standards regarding acceptable driving and conviction records (non felony), employment history, and honesty. Candidates who pass the background check will be asked to complete the final two steps.
- Bachelor's degree AND one years of investigations, law enforcement, criminal analyst, or military analyst experience.
OR - Associate’s degree AND three years of investigations, law enforcement, criminal analyst, or military analyst experience.
AND - Valid driver's license.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE BEYOND MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completed degree in one of the following fields of study: criminal justice, criminology, information technology, sociology, psychology, law enforcement, business/public administration, or statistics and research methodology.
- Experience with research and data analysis methods and techniques.
- Ability to collect, assemble, analyze, and evaluate evidence, statistics, and other pertinent information to draw logical conclusions in order to effectively connect and solve crimes.
- Experience working with mapping analytical software and Microsoft Office products (SharePoint, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Experience working with federal, state and local law enforcement databases.
Pursuant to Dakota County Policy and Procedures Manual Section 3102 (L), this position is designated as Safety Sensitive.

- Research, compile, analyze and map crime trends and patterns.
- Assist investigative and administrative staff in planning the deployment of resources for the prevention, intervention, and suppression of criminal activity.
- Use federal, state, and local criminal systems and databases to research and evaluate criminal organization members, their activities, and investigative overlaps.
- Conduct communication analysis and prepare organizational, phone link, and timeline charts using various intelligence/investigative software applications.
- Set up and administer county wide investigation meetings with surrounding jurisdictions.
- Provide investigative case support to assist in criminal investigations.
- Detect and describe tactical, administrative, strategic links, patterns, and trends in crimes.
- Respond to inquiries from surrounding and law enforcement agencies.

Work Environment
Work is primarily sedentary, although some slight physical effort may be required. Work is typically performed in an adequately lighted and climate-controlled office. May require occasional travel for off-site work.
Work is completed in the office at the Law Enforcement Center in Hastings, MN. Work is performed Monday through Friday during regular business hours (8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.)
