Corteva Agriscience is seeking a highly motivated and innovative Research Scientist to join the Crop Productivity and Resilience Team. The position will be in our Global Business Center in Johnston, IA. The ideal candidate will have exposure to a broad range of scientific disciplines in the field of trait discovery related to crop productivity and resilience using diverse biotechnology approaches. Desired skills include, but are not limited to, gene discovery, gene network and mode of action dissection, bioinformatics analysis, genomics, genome editing, molecular biology, plant transformation, plant breeding, molecular/biochemical assay development and plant phenotyping. The successful candidate will manage all scientific/technical aspects of projects/collaborations and execution of ad hoc laboratory experiments as necessary while contributing to broader cross-functional research activities.

This position will be on-site at our Corteva location in Johnston, IA.

Responsibilities – How will you help us grow?

  • Participate in the design and implementation of a trait discovery strategy and pipeline aimed at identifying and validating leads to improve agronomic traits of interest using biotechnology approaches in multiple crops
  • Follow creation, molecular characterization and selection of gene edited plants using internal databases, and design and implement relevant assays in the laboratory, controlled environment and field settings for phenotypic characterization.
  • Work with manager to set goals, track progress, and quickly pivot research activities when needed
  • Track and explore developments in relevant fields using a variety of sources including academic publications and competitive intelligence
  • Analyze, summarize, and present results to manager, team and leadership
  • Lead or participate actively in cross-functional and external collaborations

Qualifications

Requirements – What expertise have you grown?

  • PhD in Plant Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, or related scientific fields with experience in trait discovery and plant biotechnologies as well as post-doctoral experience
  • Required broad knowledge in the field of plant molecular biology, plant biotechnology and applications for trait discovery and optimization for product development
  • Required experience with comparative genomics, gene/genome editing, genetics and transgenic approaches applied to trait discovery and optimization
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the utilization of various genome/gene/protein databases, analytical and bioinformatics tools, and computer skills
  • Experience in plant breeding is desired
  • Established track record of project management in cross-functional, dynamic, past-paced R&D environments
  • Experience in leading scientific collaborations with external stakeholders
  • Innovative and self-motivated, able to both function independently and as a contributing member of cross-functional teams
  • Excellent written and oral communication/presentation skills
  • Required command of Word, PowerPoint, Excel, molecular biology software, statistics analysis and graphing software
