- Works closely with the FLEx Elementary Instructional Design Specialist to ensure that all requirements for curriculum are met. This includes using predetermined themes and topics for each unit.
- Creates engaging and interactive weekly slide deck lessons that meet the following requirements:
- Reviews all curriculum documents from the Virginia Department of Education to ensure alignment
- Chooses appropriate Essential Questions and Understandings from the HCS Essential Question and Understanding Banks
- Incorporates opportunities for students to develop their W5C skills (wellness, citizenship, communication, collaboration, creative thinking, and critical thinking)
- Designs high-quality lessons that cognitively engage students in learning
- Required: Undergraduate or Master’s degree in Elementary Education.
- Current teaching license for teaching elementary education (preferred).
- Possesses a strong foundation in curriculum development (required), especially Understanding by Design (preferred).
- Must be innovative and have the ability to create lessons that appeal to students and engage them in the learning through various games, puzzles, quests, and similar engaging activities.
- Demonstrates an understanding of virtual learning pedagogy.
- Provides evidence of effective use of Google Suite applications such Drive, Docs, Slides, Sheets, Forms, etc.
- Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills; can write curriculum that is clear and concise so that all teachers (including new teachers and long-term substitutes) can easily use it.
- Works in a self-directed manner and is capable of setting and effectively meeting long-term and short-term goals.
- Interacts positively and communicates effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Collaborates to accomplish tasks, accepts feedback in a professional manner, and makes changes to the curriculum as necessary.
- Has own computer and internet access.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Uses the Virginia Department of Education’s Standards of Learning and Hampton City Schools resources to create a guaranteed and viable FLEx elementary curriculum that can be implemented in Hampton City Schools’ virtual classrooms for elementary schoolers. This curriculum will use the Understanding by Design Framework (Wiggins & McTighe, 2005), adhere to the HCS Written Curriculum requirements, and meet expectations from the Curriculum Leader for the FLEx program.
Hampton City Schools retains all property rights to any curriculum materials created.
