HUMAN RESOURCES VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

POSITION: Custodian – (1) Day Shift, (1) Mid Shift, (5) Afternoon Shift

POSITION REPORTS TO: Manager of Facilities

LOCATION: Pontiac High School

Hours 2:20p – 11:00p (Afternoon Shift)
** Summer time hours and break times are subject to change based on needs of the district. **

COMPENSATION: $16.50 - $18.50 per hour full time with benefits

LENGTH OF CONTRACT: 12 Months

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Custodian provides general custodial services for the district and reports to the appropriate contracted Supervisor and completes minor additional custodial tasks for the building Administrator.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED required, college or trade school classes preferred.
  • Mandatory two (2) hour training video for all custodians
  • Must have reliable transportation

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Work with standard custodial chemicals and finishes for cleaning, sanitizing and disinfection.
  • Performs scheduled full cleaning assignments, utilizing the six step full cleaning process.
  • Sweeps, mops, and scrubs floors and other surfaces.
  • Cleans, renovates, and renews floor surface finishes.
  • Cleans and dusts furniture, exhibit cases, fixtures, windows, doors, trim, and related furnishings.
  • Cleans chalkboards, chalk rails, and erasers as needed.
  • Washes/cleans light fixtures.
  • Replaces light bulbs/tubes and assists with ballasts as necessary.
  • Moves furniture, supplies, and miscellaneous equipment.
  • Enter work order requests in School Dude as needed
  • Sweeps or shovels snow from steps, roofs, and walks at building entrances and salts icy steps and walks as necessary.
  • Collects, bags, and disposes of trash.
  • Locks/unlocks doors and windows to classrooms and offices.
  • Turns off unnecessary lighting.
  • Cleans and services lavatories, toilet rooms, and locker rooms.
  • Washes all interior and exterior glass including framed pictures, partitions, and doors.
  • Reports items that require repair to Supervisor.
  • Follows written work schedule.
  • Pick up trash from exterior of the building.
  • Coordinates work with Supervisor and principal.

  • Notify Supervisor immediately of building heating issues.
  • Guards property against fire, theft, and illegal entry; maintain building security.
  • Works from ladders, scaffolding, or swing stages.
  • Maintains and operates all equipment necessary to perform assigned tasks.
  • Vacuums, spot cleans, and extracts carpet as necessary.
  • Performs all assigned duties in a manner in which contributes to the safety and wellbeing of the staff and buildings.
  • Performs all custodial/maintenance duties assigned by supervisors.
  • Emergency work may be needed
  • There will be times that this position travels to other buildings.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Possess good habits, character and attendance records.
  • Be neat in appearance and personal hygiene.
  • Be able to speak, read and write at a level of proficiency that permits satisfactory job performance.
  • Be capable and demonstrate the establishment and maintenance of harmonious effective relationships with staff, supervisors and co-workers.
  • Upon request, present a certificate signed by a licensed physician appointed by the school board verifying the physical ability to perform the job.
  • Possess experience in custodial work to carry out the assigned duties preferred.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Possess a willingness to learn new job skills.
  • Must be able to pass fingerprint and drug screening prior to employment.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES/REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision ability required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.
