About the Role

The Customer Service Representative position is responsible for efficient communications with customers for all Matson's Trades and Services. Assists customers with all aspects of the shipping process including scheduling, rate quotations, booking, tracing, billing, payment, claims and any problem resolution.

What you’ll do:

  • Deliver quality service with proper communication and follow-through that consistently reflects Matson’s Values.
  • Demonstrate a working proficiency of all Matson tariffs.
  • Provide customers with general tariff information and basic rate quotes utilizing online web tariff systems.
  • Book and schedule customer’s freight as requested.
  • Monitor, track and manage customer’s freight.
  • Provide timely and accurate invoicing.
  • Ensure timely and accurate payments for services provided on behalf of customer’s freight.
  • Deliver quality service and demonstrate proper face to face, telephonic, and electronic mail follow through consistently, when working with customers to resolve problems and issues.
  • Obtain applicable information and enter into the relevant company applications for customer bookings.
  • Demonstrate a working proficiency of all Matson internal applications, external government applications and all other applications needed to support the customer.
  • Deliver timely and accurate information to various local government agencies that interface with Matson.

In addition to those essential job functions identified above, individuals in this position are also responsible for performing other duties or tasks that may be assigned. The Company retains the discretion to add to or change the essential job functions of this position at any time.

You have these skills:

  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, Company, and industry software applications.
  • Ability to understand international shipping transactions including foreign tariffs, customs requirements, and currency exchange.
  • Ability to excel in a team environment, as well as working independently.
  • Ability to learn and retain a large amount of technical information in a relatively short period.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Problem analysis and problem resolution at a functional level.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A strong team player.

And these qualifications:

  • One (1) to two (2) years of frontline customer service experience.
  • Experience in marine, transportation, logistics, or operations preferred.

Extra credit if you have:

  • College degree or equivalent experience.
